Friday Finals: Killer Bees blank Bulls

Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 1 @ Amarillo Bulls 0 – Nick Schmit stopped all 25 shots that came his way for his first shutout of the season as the Killer Bees snapped the Bulls eight-game winning streak with a 1-0 win in Amarillo.  The lone goal of the night came from Rio Grande Valley leading scorer Ben Greiner in the 2nd period with an assist to Carter Lukenda. Amarillo netminder Collin Delia made 24 saves in the loss. The win moves the Killer Bees into a tie for 2nd place in the South, six points behind Amarillo. Boxscore

Brookings Blizzard 0 @ Austin Bruins 3 – Nick Lehr stopped all 41 shots that came his way for his 3rd shutout of the season as Austin blanked Brookings, 3-0.  Trey Dodd continued his hot play for Austin, scoring a 1st period goal, which turned out to be the game-winner. Sam Kauppila added a 2nd period tally and Josh Bretner scored a shorthanded goal in the 3rd period. Austin Priebe made 31 saves in the Blizzard loss. Brookings outshot Austin, 41-34. Boxscore

Soo Eagles 1 @ Coulee Region Chill 6 - James McGing scored twice and Richard Zehnal had three assists as the Chill got back on the winning side of things with a convincing 6-1 home win over the Eagles. Adam Carlson made 27 saves in the win. The Chill jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st period on goals from Dunk Abbott, Adam Lovick and McGing. McGing would add another in the 2nd period as would Jesse Tredinnick and Mac Jansen scored in the 3rd period. Bruno Birzitis scored the lone Eagles goal. Boxscore

Odessa Jackalopes 0 @ Topeka RoadRunners 7 – Another night and another shutout for Topeka goaltender PJ Bridges, who for the second consecutive night shutout the Jackalopes as the RoadRunners cruised to a 7-0 home win. Seven different players scored for Topeka, who had four power play goals. James Ring, Jake Kamrass and Jasen Fernsler scored in the 1st period, Ryan Polin and Sly Sutter scored in the 2nd period and Andrew Roye and Tyler Poulsen added 3rd period goals. Boxscore

Wichita Falls Wildcats 1 @ Fairbanks Ice Dogs 3 – Kevin Aldridge made 26 saves and led the Ice Dogs to their fifth straight win as they topped the visiting Wildcats, 3-1. The Ice Dogs jumped out to a quick 2-0 on goals from Colton Wolter and Chandler Madry in the opening half of the 1st period. Will Vosejpka added the lone Wildcats goal later in the 1st period on the power play.  Late in the 2nd period, Doug Rose added a power play goal to increase the lead to 3-1. David Zevnik took the loss in goal for the Wildcats. Boxscore

Minnesota Wilderness 5 @ Kenai River Brown Bears 4 (SO) - Thomas Lindstrom, Johno May, Michael Covach and Jakob Romo all scored to give the Wilderness their first shootout victory in five tries. In regulation, Darian Romanko scored twice along with goals from Lindstrom and Romo for the Wilderness, while Kenai River had goals from Vincent Stefan, Eric Purcell, Matt Rudin and Jack Gessert. Minot Minotauros 4 @ Minnesota Magicians 3 (OT) – Colton Kramer scored 1:29 into overtime as the Minot Minotauros won their second straight game with a 4-3 road win in Minnesota. The Magicians jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on goals from Mario Bianchi and Matt Colford. Minot answered with goals from Kramer and Michael Bigelbach to tie the game. Cody Milligan briefly gave Minnesota the lead back against his old team before a goal from Jake Johnson sent to game to overtime. Boxscore

Bismarck Bobcats 1 @ Aberdeen Wings 2 – In a classic goaltending matchup, Chad Catt made 45 saves to best Aaron Nelson’s 35 saves as the Wings beat the Bobcats, 2-1. TJ Roo continued his hot play for Aberdeen as he scored both Wings goals, including the game-winner with 2:20 remaining in the 3rd period. Joonas Huovinen had the lone Bobcats goal, which briefly tied the game at 1-1 in the 3rd period. Boxscore

Janesville Jets 2 @ Springfield Jr. Blues 1 (SO) – Brock Kautz made 40 saves through overtime and regulation as the Jets edged out a win in Springfield against the Jr. Blues. Kyle Patava had the lone goal in regulation for the Jets, scoring a shorthanded goal in the 1st period. Kevin Shand tied the game for the Jr. Blues in the 2nd period. The Jets got shootout goals from Jordan Himley, Drew Callin and Zac Keryluk, while Trevor Stone and Shand scored for the Jr. Blues. Boxscore

Lone Star Brahmas 1 @ Corpus Christi IceRays 3 – The IceRays snapped a seven-game slide as they scored twice in the 3rd period to break a 1-1 deadlock to defeat the Brahmas, 3-1. Matt Lison scored in the 1st period to give Lone Star a 1-0 lead, but Corpus Christi would respond with a 2nd period goal from Jake Durflinger and 3rd period markers from Maurin Bouvet and Lucas Bennett. Ben Myers made 22 saves in the win. Boxscore

Port Huron Fighting Falcons 3 @ Johnstown Tomahawks 4 – Three assists from Jordan Watt and goals from four different players led the Tomahawks to a 4-3 win over the 1st place Falcons. Johnstown jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from Zach Wallace and Brandon Reinholz. Port Huron responded with two goals from Logan Lambdin to tie the game at 2-2 after two periods. Mitch Hall and Matthew Meier added 3rd period goals, which ended up being the difference. Boxscore

Wenatchee Wild 5 @ Michigan Warriors 1 – It was a dominating performance from the Wild, who got 27 saves from Chase Perry and two goals from Nicholas Rivera in a 5-1 road win in Flint. Wenatchee jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st period on goals from Parker Tuomie and Matthew Nuttie. Rivera scored his first goal in the 2nd period to make it 3-0 and Troy Loggins made it 4-0 midway through the 3rd period before Jake Hopfner scored the lone goal for Michigan. Rivera added his second goal on the power play late in the 3rd period. Boxscore
