Fairbanks, Aberdeen and Kenai River pick up wins on Thursday
Aberdeen 7 @ Brookings 2 – Six different players scored for the Wings as they picked up a big 7-2 road win in Brookings on Thursday. Aberdeen was bolstered by a fast start as they opened up a 3-1 lead in the 1st period on goals from Justin Parizek, Erik Baskin and Colton Kramer. Justin Moody scored the Brookings goal. The Wings put the game away in the 2nd period with two more goals from Tanner Holmquist and Jonathan Grebosky. Grebosky would add another in the 3rd period as would Tyler Cisar, while Aidan Cavallini scored late for the Blizzard. Zach Nagelvoort made 31 saves for the Wings to move his record to 4-0-1 since joining the Wings. Boxscore
Fresno 1 @ Kenai River 5 – Five different players had multi-point games and goaltender Evan McCarthy made 29 saves as the Brown Bears beat the Monsters in Kenai River, 5-1. Kenai River opened up a 2-0 lead in the 1st period on even-strength goals from Jake Bushey and Brad LeLievre, who both had multi-point games. Brad Duwe and Chris Nuth scored in the 2nd period for the Bears, while Trevor Husch added the lone Fresno goal to make it a 4-1 game after two periods. Alec Butcher added a 3rd period tally to make the final 5-1. Macauley Haight took the loss making 39 saves. Boxscore
Wenatchee 1 @ Fairbanks 3 – The Ice Dogs crept to within seven points of 1st place Wenatchee with a 3-1 win on Thursday in front of another sold out crowd at the Big Dipper Ice Arena. After the Wild’s Robert Nichols shut the door in the 1st period on 16 Ice Dogs shots, Fairbanks broke through in the 2nd period with two goals, both courtesy of Jacob Hetz. Garret Clemment and Kyle Lee assisted on both goals. Wenatchee’s goal also came in the 2nd period off the stick of Chris Kerr with assists to Noah Nelson and Josh Hartley. Max Birkinbine added a 3rd period goal on a penalty shot to secure the win. Steve Perry made 25 saves in the win, while Nichols made 28 saves in the loss. Boxscore
