NAHL alum Beckman named Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Month
March 1, 2013
Amarillo Bulls’ and NAHL Alumni Karl Beckman was recognized by Atlantic Hockey on Thursday.
Holy Cross Crusader freshman Karl Beckman has been named the Atlantic Hockey Rookie of The Month for February as he posted two goals and eight assists for 10 points. His eight assists led the team for the month. This is the first time that Beckman has earned this honor.
“The team had a really great month and worked hard,” said Beckman. “We capped off a good month especially when we need to kick it into high gear for playoffs.”
Beckman said the transition from junior hockey to College life at Holy Cross has been an easy one for him. “The only real change is going to class every day and having homework to do, but it’s all the same when we go to the rink like it was in Amarillo,” he added. “It’s all about managing your time and I have had a great experience her so far and couldn’t be happier.”
This year has seen several former Bulls players go head-to-head against one another for their respective NCAA teams. He said seeing former teammates has been fun.
“I scored my first goal against Cody Freeman and Canisius,” he added. “It’s been great to play against the guys and talk to them on the ice. After the game I would send them a quick text.”
Beckman will see more of his former teammates this weekend as Holy Cross visits Army to face Joe Kozlak and Luke Jenkins.
Beckman was named the Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week on Feb. 4, as he posted his first collegiate goal and also tallied one assist for two points as the Crusaders defeated Canisius, 5-1, on Feb. 3. He recorded three assists as the Crusaders defeated UConn, 4-1 on Feb. 15. Beckman has at least one point in the last four games with one goal and four assists for five points during that span. For the season he has two goals and 12 assists for 14 points.
