November 1, 2012

Aberdeen goalie Marcus Zelzer made 26 saves as the Wings beat the Brookings Blizzard on Thursday, 3-2.

Brookings 2 @ Aberdeen 3 – In the lone NAHL game on Thursday night, the Aberdeen Wings snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-2 win at home over the Brookings Blizzard at the Odde Ice Center in Aberdeen.

The win for the Wings was also their first in three tries over the Blizzard this season.  The 1st period saw the most scoring for both teams.  The Wings took a 1-0 lead just over four minutes into the game on Jordan Heller’s 3rd goal of the season.  Heinz Koster picked up the lone assist.  Craig Lindegard would tie the game at 1-1 six minutes later with a goal and assists from Jordan Stejskal and Jeff Flicker.  However, Aberdeen regained the momentum for the rest of the game with a goal just :45 seconds later as Peter Krieger lit the lamp with assists to Patrick Steinhauser and Kyle Kruenegel to give the Wings a 2-1 lead.  The Wings would lead the remainder of the game.

Justin Parizek would score his 4th goal of the season in the only goal for either team in the 2nd period.  It was also his team-leading 14th point of the season.  Joe Sullivan and Tommy Miller assisted on the goal.

In the 3rd period, the Blizzard made things interesting with a goal from Justin Moody with just over two minutes remaining in regulation, but the Wings would shut the door the rest of the way.

Marcus Zelzer was strong between the pipes for the Wings, stopping 26 of 28 shots, while his counterpart Erick Majerle made 29 saves in the loss for Brookings, which snapped a four-game winning streak for the Blizzard.

The two teams meet again in Aberdeen on Friday night in the final game of the two-game series.
