Sunday Wrap-Up: Amarillo salvages split against 'Rays

Amarillo 9 @ Corpus Christi 3 – Corpus Christi could not overcome Amarillo’s six goals in the second period en route to a 9-3 victory.  The Bulls started the scoring 10:42 into the game when Mike Davis scored with assists to John Rey and TJ Sarcona.  Amarillo tacked on another at the 13:53 mark off the stick of Gage Christianson while on the power-play for the 2-0 lead. Corpus Christi split the lead when Mike Economos took a shot that got deflected by Joe Ginley pulling the IceRays within one goal at the 18:38 point of period one.  The Bulls scored the next seven goals in a row as Ryan Cole, Brady Ferguson, Gage Christianson, Matt Siekhaus, Mike Davis, and Tyler Deresky each notched goals to put Amarillo out to a 9-2 lead after 40 minutes.  Only one goal was scored in the third by the IceRays and it was courtesy of AJ Jarosz making the final score 9-3. Wichita Falls 3 @ Texas 2 (OT) - After road wins against the Wichita Falls Wildcats on Friday and Saturday night, the Texas Tornado returned home to take on their in-state rivals at Dr Pepper Arena. They picked up a point, but fell to the Wildcats in overtime, 3-2. The overtime winner came after Colin Staub made a couple of dekes before slipping the puck five-hole on Jerry Kaukinen.  Staub’s overtime winner was his second goal of the game, after he opened the scoring in the first period. Brandon Hawkins and Leo Lumm scored 12 seconds apart in the second period for the Tornado, but a third-period goal tied it for Wichita Falls before winning it in overtime. With the OT loss, the Tornado do pick up a point, however, and slide one point ahead of Topeka for the top spot in the South Division. Boxscore
