Weekend finale: Tornado and Jets get OT wins on Sunday

Texas 6 @ Corpus Christi 5 (OT) - The Texas Tornado trailed the Corpus Christi IceRays 4-2 at the start of the third period and 5-4 with three minutes left in regulation, but battled back to earn a 6-5 overtime victory at AmericanBank Center on Sunday. The overtime winner went to Jordan Greenberg, which completed a four-point night.  Jordan Lovick also scored twice and now has seven points in his last two games.  Texas Struck early on the power-play as Lucas Whelan shot a puck through a screen beating IceRays goaltender Chris Komma to give the Tornado a 1-0 lead.  Mark Biggs scored 7:58 into the first period with assists John Kirtland and Jordan Lovick on a wrist shot from the top of the slot to increase the Texas lead 2-0.  The IceRays split the Tornado lead in half courtesy of Beau Walker who has been hot for Corpus Christi as of late.  Walker let a slap shot fly from the top of the faceoff circle beating Joakim Jutras making the score 2-1.  It was all Corpus Christi in the second period of play.  Frank Misuraca started the scoring spree with a power-play goal 9:57 into the second on a wrist shot tying the game 2-2.  Perry D’Arrisso scored the next two goals of the game to take a 3-2 lead on a deflection, and to take a 4-2 lead on the power-play as he picked up a rebound in net beating Joakim Jutras at the 18:26 mark of the second period.  Texas stormed back to tie the game with two goals in a row.  Jordan Lovick scored 51 seconds into the third period to pull Texas within a goal, then Justin Greenberg scored 9:44 into the final period to tie the game 4-4.  Danny Fetzer made a great play, feeding AJ Jarosz who scored his fifth goal of the year to regain the lead 5-4 with just 3:08 left in regulation.  The Tornado forced overtime with only 2:27 left to go in the game as CJ Reuschlein wristed a shot through the screen beating IceRays goaltender Chris Komma tying the game at five a piece.  In overtime Jordan Greenberg scored on a partial breakaway to give the Tornado an overtime win 2:18 into the extra period. St. Louis 2 @ Janesville 3 (OT) – The Jets picked up their only win of the three game series against the Bandits on Sunday with a 3-2 overtime win.  Connor McBride picked up the game-winning goal just :44 seconds into overtime as he connected on the power play.  St. Louis had a 2-0 lead in the 1st period thanks to goals from Cody Ganchar and Ryan Cotton, but Janesville tied the game with goals from Truman Landowski and Adam Frank. Chicago 4 @ Springfield 7 – The Jr. Blues score three times on the power play and got a hat-trick from Josef Pontasch as they took two of three games in the weekend series from the Hitmen with a 7-4 win Sunday night.  Ethan Nauman and Chris Sitler also chipped in with three points apiece.  Springfield outshot the Hitmen 45-25 and led comfortably 5-1 after two periods.  Zach Schrotenboer and Shigenobu Kakudate each had a goal and assist in the loss for Chicago. Traverse City 4 @ Kalamazoo 2 – The North Stars doubled up the Jr. K-Wings thanks to two point nights from Seth Adams and Jared Van Wormer.  Traverse City led 2-0 after the 1st period thanks to goals from Adams and Mitchell Snider.  Kalamazoo answered back with two in the 2nd period from Taylor Burden and Kyle Gattelaro, but Alexander Taulien’s goal early in the period proved to be the game-winner for the North Stars.  Kyle Laslo made 31 saves in the win, while Alex Okicki made 38 saves in the loss.
