Former NAHL player Wydo nets weekly NCAA honor
For the second-straight week, the Robert Morris men’s hockey team garnered Atlantic Hockey Association honors with Cody Wydo winning the Travel Team USA Rookie of the Week award.
Wydo (Allen Park, Mich. / Motor City Metal Jackets NAHL) tallied four points over the weekend (three goals, one assist) to extend his current point streak to five games. The forward tallied a pair of goals including the eventual game winner in Friday’s 5-2 win over the Pioneers before closing out the weekend with a goal and an assist in RMU’s record-setting 10-4 win on Saturday afternoon.
Last season, Wydo led the NAHL in points (91) and goals (40) was named as NAHL Forward of the Year, along with being named to the All-NAHL first team. Wydo played two seasons for the Motor City Metal Jackets in the NAHL, scoring 133 career points in just 116 career games.
He also played and appeared in both NAHL Top Prospects Tournaments last year. In December of 2010, he played for Team Miller at the Top Prospects Tournament in Boston, Massachusetts where he led the team in scoring with six points in three games. In Ann Arbor in February, Wydo played for Team North where he had three points in two games.
