Chippewa defenseman Peapenburg makes NCAA DI Commitment

The Chippewa Steel of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that defenseman Mason Peapenburg has announced his commitment to play NCAA Division I hockey for the University of Wisconsin in the Big Ten Conference. 

“I am humbled and beyond thankful to announce my commitment to play D1 college hockey at the University of Wisconsin. I would like to thank God, my family, friends, teammates, coaches, adviser, and everyone who has supported me along the way,” said Peapenburg.

Peapenburg, 17, is playing his first season of junior hockey. The Larsen, Wisconsin native has played 15 games for the Steel so far this season where he has recorded 7 points. He also was called up to the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL in late December. Peapenburg recently represented the Gold Selects team, made up of players selected in collaboration with NHL Central Scouting, at the 2024 Top Prospects Tournament. 

“We are excited for Mason’s opportunity with Wisconsin. He has adapted to the NAHL very quickly and continues to improve every day. We look forward to his continued development and future successes. He is a great young man and we love having him with us this season,” said Chris Ratzloff, head coach of the Chippewa Steel. 

Peapenburg becomes the 9th player on the Chippewa Steel roster to commit to playing NCAA Division I hockey. The Badgers currently roster six former NAHL players including the NCAA’s best GAA netminder and former Austin Bruin, Kyle McClellan.
