Johnstown defenseman Klemm makes NCAA DI Commitment

February 15, 2024

Klemm was a Team East representative at the 2024 Top Prospects Tournament.

Johnstown Tomahawks Defenseman, Lukas Klemm has announced his Division 1 Commitment to continue his hockey career at Mercyhurst University.

“I could not be happier for Lukas and his Division 1 commitment to Mercyhurst,” said Johnstown Tomahawks Head Coach Mike Letizia. “He has brought so much to our team this season and we are extremely thankful for what his contributions have meant. Bringing Lukas to Johnstown this summer was an absolutely perfect fit, and we are so happy that we could be a part of his journey to landing a well-deserved Division 1 commitment. It is a privilege to coach him, and we look forward to him continuing to be such a huge part of our team moving forward. Congratulations to Lukas, and his family!”

During his first season with the Johnstown Tomahawks, Klemm earned the title of Assistant Captain. Hailing from Stamford, CT, Klemm has contributed eight goals and 17 assists across 40 games played this season. Klemm’s achievements extend to being selected for the NAHL Top Prospects, where he netted a goal.

“I’d like to thank everyone that has helped me get to this point, especially Coach Letizia, Mish, and Dunks for all the help so far this season,” said Lukas Klemm. “I’m excited to battle with the guys for the rest of the year to win the Robertson Cup, and I’m looking forward to coming back next year before heading to Mercyhurst.”

Before joining the Johnstown Tomahawks, Klemm played a season with the Nanaimo Clippers in the BCHL from 2022-2023 and another season with the Jamestown Rebels during their final season in the NAHL from 2021 to 2022.  Mercyhurst University is located in Erie, PA, and is currently home to three former Tomahawks, Dusty Geregach, Tyler DesRochers, and Will Margel. After concluding his final year of junior hockey in the 2024-2025 season, Klemm will join the Mercyhurst Lakers in the Atlantic Hockey League.
