NAHL Weekend Preview

January 26, 2024

31 games highlight the schedule this weekend as the Top Prospects Tournament inches closer

The Janesville Jets are flying high coming into the weekend as they have won eight in a row and are 9-0-1 in their last 10 games.  They will look to continue that trend as they get set for a trip to Springfield and a two game set against the Jr. Blues. The Oklahoma Warriors take their six game winning streak on the road to Odessa while the red hot Bismarck Bobcats will try to win their sixth straight contest heading into St. Cloud tonight.

As for the 2024 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament, which will be held on February 5-6, 2024, at the UPMC Lemieux Center in suburban Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the rosters have been announced and can be found HERE.

It was a really good week for NCAA commitments as seven more players made NCAA Division I commitments as the current season total is now up to 187 committed players.

Games to Watch:

In the Central, we’ve got second place Bismarck traveling to third place St. Cloud this weekend as like we mentioned earlier, Bismarck has won their last five game. St. Cloud swept the Minnesota Wilderness last week and will look to continue their strong play and give their playoff spot a bigger cushion. Meanwhile in division, Austin visits Minot and North Iowa makes a trip to Aberdeen.

In the East, a matchup between the last two division representatives at the Robertson Cup go head-to-head as New Jersey visits Maryland. The Black Bears are 9-1 in their last 10 games while New Jersey is playing their best hockey of the season going 6-3-1 over the same stretch and they just split with second place Maine a week ago. Elsewhere, Northeast hosts Rochester, New Hampshire visits Danbury and Maine visits Johnstown.

In the Midwest, the Wilderness take on the Steel as Chippewa currently sits 5 points out of a playoff spot. Both teams are coming off a weekend where they were swept by their opponents. Minnesota dropped two to St. Cloud while the Steel were taken down by Jets. In the lower 48, we’ve got Janesville taking on the Jr. Blues while up in Alaska, Kenai River and Anchorage will have a home-and-home while Fairbanks hosts the Windigo.

In the South, El Paso and Shreveport go head to head as they are separated by a single point. El Paso is 9-0-1 in their last 10 games putting them into second place tie with Amarillo. Shreveport can jump back into second place with a sweep this weekend. Other games in the South include Odessa hosting the defending champion Warriors. New Mexico travels to Lone Star for a date with the Brahmas and Amarillo makes the trip to Corpus Christi.
