New Jersey defenseman Teply makes NCAA DI commitment

November 28, 2023

The New Jersey Titans of the North American Hockey League (NHAL) are proud to announce that defenseman Matej Teply has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the University of Vermont in Hockey East.

Now skating in his second season in the NAHL for the Titans, the 6’1/180 lbs. native of Stamford, Connecticut, native has recorded 2 goals and 12 assists for 14 points in 14 games, leading all New Jersey defensemen in scoring so far during the 2023-24.

Teply, 18, first joined the Titans last season after a standout season with South Kent School, leading the Cardinals in scoring from the blueline with 4 goals and 23 assists in 60 games. During the 2022-23 season, he recorded four points in 11 NAHL games with the Titans.

He becomes the 9th player on the roster to commit to a NCAA Division I school.

“This means a ton, not just for myself but for my family as well.  We’ve looked forward to making this decision for years, and it will be a dream come true to play Division I hockey,” said Teply. “Vermont checked every box I was looking for in a school.  I got a great feel from Coach Wiedler for how things are run on and off the ice along with the overall environment.  It made me feel very comfortable.  I’m excited for the opportunity to play for a prestigious program in the successful and competitive Hockey East.”

Now with his commitment made, Teply is looking forward to the rest of the NAHL season.  “Number one on my bucket list for this season is to win a Robertson Cup.  I believe we have the right roster to go all the way as long as we stay focused, consistent, and believe in what we can do.”

“Matej has worked hard since joining our team late last season, and has become a huge part of what we do here,” said Head Coach and General Manager Craig Doremus. “He is a great, young prospect with a very high ceiling, and UVM is getting an extremely talented young man.  We look forward to Teps continuing to grow and be a big part of our pursuit of the Robertson Cup.”
