Saturday Scores: Minotauros roll to sweep and 6th straight win
Janesville forward Max Wagener had three points in a weekend sweep of Springfield.
North Iowa 1 @ Minot 4: The Minot Minotauros picked up a win and sweep on Saturday night winning 4-1 against the North Iowa Bulls. The win was the 6th straight for Minot who own the NAHL’s best record at 15-3-1. Will Dawson got the Minot scoring going in the first period for a 1-0 lead. In the second period, Niklas Ketonen added another goal for a 2-0 Minot lead. In the final period, Joel Lehtinen made the Minotauros lead 3-0. North Iowa answered back with Hayden Siegel for a 3-1 score. Late in the last period, Pavol Funtek netted the final goal of the game to seal the win for Minot, 4-1. Minotauros goalie Brady James turned away 20 shots in the contest.
Janesville 5 @ Springfield 2 - The Janesville Jets completed the sweep of the Springfield Jr. Blues as they grabbed a 5-2 win on Saturday night. Ryan Williams notched a goal and two assists while newcomer Trey Fechko potted a pair of goals in the victory. Max Wagener had a goal and an assist while Ethan Berg also scored for the Jets. Jagr McClelland and Isaac Keller got the goals for the Jr. Blues. Jan Kasal stopped 28 shots to earn the win in goal. Nick Bunch was saddled with the loss as he made 36 saves.
Anchorage 7 @ Kenai River 2 - Trenton Powell had a goal and two assists as the Anchorage Wolverines offense once again exploded for seven goals as they finished off the sweep of the Kenai River Brown Bears, winning 7-2 on Saturday. Bryce Monrean had three assists while Fyodor Nikolayenya and taisetsu Ushio had a goal and an assist. Christian Theberge, Kade Shea, Lukas Bellinger and Danny Bagnole all scored in the big win. Nicholas Stevens and Dylan Contreras provided the offense for Kenai River. Liam Beerman was given the win in goal as he stopped 35 shots while Marks Slavinskis-Repe was stuck with the loss after stopping 27 shots.
Wisconsin 1 @ Minnesota 2 (SO) - Daniel Astopovich scored in the sixth round of the shootout as the Minnesota Wilderness topped the Wisconsin Windigo 2-1. The two teams traded goals in the middle period as Braydon Beam scored his sixth of the year for Wisconsin. Ashton Dahms countered with his 14th tally of the season and that would be all the scoring in regulation and overtime. After no scoring in the first three rounds, Danill Dolzhenko put the pressure on by scoring in round four but Peteris Purmalis scored to keep the Wilderness alive. Nobody else would score until Astopovich lit the lamp to send the crowd home happy. Adam Prokop scored the win in the blue paint as he stopped 38 shots. Max Beckford was dealt the loss after denying 20 chances.
Johnstown 2 @ Maine 3 (OT): The Maine Nordiques completed a weekend sweep over the Johnstown Tomahawks in a 3-2 overtime win. In the opening period both teams were even 1-1 as Chase Sandhu scored for Johnstown and Charles Tardif for Maine. In the second period, Kellen Murphy scored to get the Nordiques ahead 2-1. In the third Jarden Johnson evened the game for the Tomahawks 2-2 to force overtime. In the extra period, Shane Kozlina scored to secure the win for Maine, 3-2. Nordiques goaltender Carter Richardsons stopped 36 shots in the contest.
Colorado 2 @ New Mexico 5 - Graham Harris led the New Mexico offensive attack with a goal and three helpers as the Ice Wolves bested the Grit by a score of 5-2. Michael Schermerhorn had a goal and two assists of his own while Zach Boren, Ryan Johnson and Ryan Seelinger all lit the lamp as well for New Mexico. Jordan Gudridge and Makhai Sparks were the goal scorers for Colorado. Jackson Fuller was the winner in between the pipes as he needed just 22 saves to pick up the win. Jack Erickson turned aside 29 shots in a losing effort.
Odessa 4 @ Shreveport 5 (OT) - Kyan Haldenby’s fourth goal of the season was the difference as the Shreveport Mudbugs topped the Odessa Jackalopes 5-4 in overtime. After Lucas Deeb and Nick Marino put the Mudbugs on top after the first 20 minutes of action. In the second in was all Odessa as Cameron Dunn scored twice, Kowin Belsterling and James Richmond all scored to give the Jacks a 4-2 lead but Hank Reed scored with just seconds remaining to cut into the deficit before the second intermission. Deeb notched his second goal in the third period to force overtime and set up Kyan Haldenby’s game winner. Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau stopped 26 shots in the win while Quentin Sigurdson stopped 34 attempts in the loss.
Lone Star 9 @ Amarillo 0 - The Lone Star Brahmas dominated from start to finish as they defeated the Amarillo Wranglers by a score of 9-0. Bryce Ingles led the way as he had a goal and four assists while Matyas Borak tallied two goals and a helper. Saxton Tess and Max Hamstad each grabbed a goal and two assists. Anthony Cappello, Brock James, Avan Pyle all got on the scoresheet for Lone Star. Jack Wieneke was perfect in between the pipes as he stopped all 20 shots that came his way. Connor McDonough and Luca Ganz combined to make 29 stops for Amarillo.
Corpus Christi 3 @ Oklahoma 2 - Anthony Cafarelli scored his 11th goal of the season late in the third to lift the Corpus Christi IceRays to a 3-2 decision over the Oklahoma Warriors. Riley Brueck opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the year. Mathieu Bourgault and Stepan Kuznetsov put the IceRays ahead with back-to-back goals in the final minutes of the opening frame. Dominic Elliot tied the game in the second with his second tally of the campaign before Cafarelli’s game winner in the final minute. Bryant Marks was busy all night as he made 40 saves in the victory while Daniel Duris was saddled with the loss, he made 21 stops.
Chippewa 4 @ Fairbanks 1 - The Chippewa Steel jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they knocked off the Fairbanks Ice Dogs 4-1. Anton Astashevich and Peyton Platter scored two minutes apart in the first period to give the Steel a two goal lead after the first period of play. Scott Miner increased the lead to three with his third goal of the year before Nick Blood’s seventh goal of the season brought the Ice Dogs within two again. Bradley Fraser would get on the board with his second goal of the season and put the game out of reach for Chippewa. Carter Wishart picked up the win in the crease as he stopped 29 of the 30 shots fired in his direction. Kyle Abrahamson and Tyler Krivtsov combined to make 12 stops for Fairbanks.
Philadelphia 6 @ Danbury 4: The Philadelphia Rebels took a 6-4 win over the Danbury Hat Tricks. In the first frame the Rebels took a 2-0 lead with Kris Samistis and Jared Coccimiglio. In the second period, Danbury scored with Grant Dietz and Jacob Robertson. The Rebels though kept on the attack scoring four goals with Ryan Butting, Charles Panchisin, Paddy Fortune and Otto Polakovs to end the period with a 6-2 lead. In the final period, the Hat Tricks netted two goals from Mason Lupo. Philadelphia held on to take the win 6-4. Netminder Jack Fialkoff stopped 32 shots in the win.
Maryland 0 @ New Hampshire 2: The New Hampshire Mountains Kings rallied back from a loss on Friday to defeat the Maryland Black Bears in shutout fashion 2-0. Both goals came in the second period, as Camerson Stehle and Tommy McDonough scored. Mountain Kings goaltender Aiden Wright turned away 40 shots in the shutout victory. Maryland goalie Owen Lepak had 19 saves in the loss.
Northeast 2 @ Rochester 3: The Rochester Jr. Americans battled to defeat the Northeast Generals in a 3-2 final. Northeast got ahead in the first with a 2-0 lead with Thomas Klochkov and Nick Recupero scoring. In the second period, the Americans netted three unanswered goals with Conor Humphrey and Thomas Rockey scoring twice to seal the win, 3-2. Rochester goalie Florian Wade stopped 28 shots on his way to the win.
Aberdeen 1 @ Austin 6: The Austin Bruins defended their home ice in a 6-1 win against the Aberdeen Wings. Both teams got on the scoresheet in the first period with Dylan Cook of Austin and Matthew Wisener of Aberdeen. In the second it was all Austin, posting four goals with Alex Laurenza, Adler Johnston, Austin Salani and Ocean Wallace for a 5-1 lead. In the third period, Alex Laurenza posted his second of the night to seal the deal for the Bruins for a 6-1 final. Trent Wiemken shrugged off 18 shots in the win.
St. Cloud 6 @ Bismarck 1: The St. Cloud Norsemen did not back down on enemy territory as the caged the Bobcats in a 6-1 final score. The Norsemen picked up an opening period goal from Tyler Dysart for a 1-0 lead. In the second, Andrew Cumming added to the St. Cloud lead, 2-0. Tommy Cronin scored the lone goal for the Bobcats, making the score 2-1. St. Cloud went back on the attack to finish out the middle frame with goals from Tyler Dysart and Kyle Miller for a 4-1 score. In the third, Tyler Dysart netted his third of the game followed by Hagen Moe to finish off the Bobcats for a 6-1 final. Goaltender Max Weilandt shewed away the Bobcats shots stopping 22 of 23.
