NAHL Alumni Update

October 11, 2023

Former NAHL and Austin Bruins defenseman Travis Shoudy was named the CCHA Defensive Player of the Week.

Atlantic Hockey Goalie of the Week: Chad Veltri, Robert Morris (Corpus Christi IceRays) - Robert Morris graduate student Chad Veltri recorded his seventh career shutout in the Colonials’ series-ending 3-0 win at Bowling Green on Sunday. The Pittsburgh, Pa., native stopped 73-of-75 Falcon shots in the two-game home-and-home series as RMU returned to the ice for the first time since the 2020-21 season. Veltri stopped 40-of-42 shots in Robert Morris’ home opener on Saturday before his 33-save performance in Sunday’s road shutout. This is his seventh career AHA weekly honor.

B1G #3 Star: Kyle McClellan, G, Wisconsin (Austin Bruins) – McClellan posted back-to-back shutouts against Augustana at the Kohl Center Oct. 7-8. He became first Badger goaltender since 1963 to register consecutive shutouts against the same opponent. He made 25 saves in the season opener and followed with 18 saves on Sunday; kept the Vikings off the scoreboard while facing 11 power plays on the weekend. He collects his second career Big Ten weekly award.

CCHA Defenseman of the Week: Travis Shoudy, Ferris State (Austin Bruins) - Shoudy helped Ferris State to a split of their opening weekend series against Miami University, collecting a league-high three assists for three points over two contests. He was a CCHA-best +3 for the Bulldogs, with seven shots on goal from the blue line. Highlighting his week was a two-helper game on Saturday that saw Ferris State erase a three-goal deficit in the second period to win, 5-4, in overtime.

CCHA Goaltender of the Week: Christian Stoever, Bowling Green (New Jersey Titans/WBS Knights) - Stoever backstopped the Falcons to a weekend split with Robert Morris University, going 1-1-0 with a CCHA-leading 1.02 goals against average and .962 save percentage. Second in total saves on the weekend with 51, he turned in one of eight shutouts across all of Division I men’s hockey from the opening weekend – stopping all 27 shots he faced in a 3-0 victory at RMU on Saturday night. The blanking was the third of his collegiate career.

NCHC Goalie of the Week: Zach Stejskal, Minnesota Duluth (WBS Knights) - Stejskal was strong in net in Minnesota Duluth’s season opener, backstopping the Bulldogs to a 2-2 overtime tie and shootout win against then-No. 10 Michigan Tech in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game on Saturday. Stejskal made 32 saves on 34 shots faced for a .941 save percentage, which led all NCHC netminders on the weekend. He made 14 saves in the second period and four more in overtime, while stopping six shots short-handed as UMD was a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill. Following overtime, Stejskal made two more saves in the three-person shootout to give UMD the shootout win and the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game trophy. His 1.85 goals-against average was also tops in the NCHC on opening weekend.

NCHC Rookie of the Week: Anthony Menghini, F, Minnesota Duluth (Austin Bruins) - Menghini started his college career with a bang, scoring a goal and a shootout goal in a 2-2 overtime tie against then-No. 10 Michigan Tech on Saturday. The freshman scored his first collegiate goal 3:16 into the third period to break a 1-1 tie and put the Bulldogs in front. After the game ended in a 2-2 draw, Menghini delivered again, scoring the shootout-winning goal as the last shooter to allow UMD to lift the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game trophy. Along with his goal, Menghini fired three shots on goal against the Huskies, while posting a +1 plus/minus and blocking a shot in the Bulldogs’ only game last weekend.
