The Johnstown Tomahawks of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased o announce that forward Nick Ahern has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the University of Vermont in Hockey East.

After joining the Tomahawks in November 2022, the 5’10/161 lbs. forward hailing from Chicago, Illinois, left a significant offensive mark during the season. Ahern, 20, appeared in 35 regular season games for the Tomahawks during the 2022-23 season and recorded 34 points (17 goals, 17 assists).

“Nick is an extremely gifted offensive weapon, and it is really exciting to see him have the opportunity to get a Division 1 commitment at Vermont,” said Johnstown Tomahawks Head Coach Mike Letizia. “His second-half production after his injury was at a torrid pace, and he had a hand in a lot of wins for us. We are very thankful that Nick chose to come to Johnstown this season in a return to the NAHL, and that we could be a part of his journey to the next level. We wish him nothing but the best as he becomes a Catamount!”

“I’m proud to announce that I have committed to the University of Vermont,” said Ahern. “I just want to say thank you to the city of Johnstown, as well as my family, coaches, teammates, billets, and everyone else that has helped make this possible. It truly is a dream come true and I couldn’t have done it without all the support I received. Go Hawks!”

During the 2021-22 season, Ahern appeared in 33 games with the NAHL’s Odessa Jackalopes and recorded 18 points (7 goals, 11 assists).

Ahern is set to make his way to Burlington, Vermont this coming autumn to compete in the esteemed Hockey East Division.
