Aberdeen assistant, NAHL alum Bohn takes coaching job in ECHL

June 19, 2018
Assistant Coach Anthony Bohn is leaving the NAHL's Aberdeen Wings to take the Assistant Coaching position for the Maine Mariners of the ECHL.  Bohn spent two seasons with the Wings and helped lead them to an overall record of 77-47-8-5 including a Central Division Playoff Championship & a Central Division Regular Season Championship.  One of Coach Bohn’s many responsibilities included a power play that ranked 3rd overall in the NAHL at 25.7%.
“Anthony is a hardworking, professionally driven coach, who He is a great teacher, who genuinely cares about his players.  He has earned his opportunity to move on to the pro level.  We will miss him and wish him the best of luck," said Wings Owner Greg Odde.
During his time in Aberdeen, Coach Bohn helped 26 players achieve their dreams of playing college hockey.  Of the 26, 22 of them committed to DI Schools.  “I’ve had the opportunity to witness Anthony’s growth first hand, beginning as a player for me in juniors, as an Assistant with me in Aberdeen. He’s proven himself to be a solid coach and leader, and a student of the game. He’s a high-end person, and that translates well into his coaching style. Anthony has one of the smartest minds in the game. His future in the game is bright, and I’m excited to see him continue to push himself and to develop to his full potential. I wish Coach Bohn the very best in his pursuit," said Wings Head Coach Scott Langer.
The Maine Mariners play in the ECHL and are an affiliate of the New York Rangers.  2018-2019 will be their inaugural season.  They are located in Portland Main and play their home games at the Cross Insurance Arena.  Coach Bohn will serve under first year Head Coach Riley Armstrong.  Armstrong 33, comes to Portland from the Wheeling Nailers, the ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he has been an assistant coach for the past 1 ½ seasons. The Nailers have a record of 61-50-12 during his tenure as assistant coach.
“There are many people I would like to thank, first I would like to thank the entire Odde family for the opportunity to be part of the Wing organization. It truly is a special place to my family and I for these past two years. To be part of two banner years and do it in front of these committed fans made it that much sweeter," said Bohn.
"Scott Langer has been a mentor, a friend, I’ve been learning from him from my playing days through my coaching career. For allowing me to grow as a coach and trusting me to teach our players in all situations. I will miss the hours in the office, just the time spent around a good person is what I’ll miss most but thankful I got the experience to do so," stated Bohn.
