Jets score early, hang on to beat Chill on Thursday

March 1, 2018

Jakov Novak leads the NAHL in scoring with 58 points and is tied for the goal lead with 26.

Coulee Region 4 @ Janesville 6 – Six different players scored a goal and the Jets rode an early lead to a 6-4 win on Thursday night over the visiting Chill in the first NAHL game following the highly successful NAHL Top Prospects Tournament.

It was all Jets in the 1st period as they scored four goals in a five minute span to take a 4-0 lead and chase Chill starting goaltender Emil Zetterquist from the net. Tanner Polglaze started the scoring, which followed up by goals from Carter Ekberg, Kip Hoffman, and Benji Eckerle.

The Chill were able to collect themselves and get back into the game in the 2nd period with three goals to cut the lead to 4-3. Gavin Holland scored twice and Colin Price also added a goal in the middle frame.

In the 3rd period, Jakov Novak continued his hot play coming from Top Prospects as he scored his 26th goal of the year to make it 5-3. The Chill again made it a one goal game with Price’s second goal of the game, but an empty-net goal from Matt Hanewall made it a 6-4 final.

Jets goalie Garrett Nieto made 23 saves in the win, while Josh Graziano stopped 32 of 33 shots in the relief appearance. Zetterquist made 5 saves.
