Minot and Port Huron win on Wednesday

February 13, 2013

Brookings 2 @ Minot 3 (OT) – The Minotauros erased a 2-1 deficit on their way to a 3-2 overtime win over the Brookings Blizzard on Wednesday night in Minot.  Things started well for the Blizzard early in the 1st period as Jared Docken scored a power play goal on an assist from Thomas Williams.  Minot would tie the game early in the 2nd period on a power play goal of their own as Jake O’Borsky lit the lamp with assists from Jerry Laakso and Mason Morelli.  Early in the 3rd period, Brookings took a 2-1 lead on a goal from Nick DeCenzo, but it would not last long as six minutes later, Tim Donohue scored to tie the game at 2-2, where it would eventually stay into overtime.  In the OT, it took Donohue less than two minutes to score his second of the game and the game-winning goals as Minot snapped a five-game losing streak.  Tyler Parks made 19 saves in the win, while Drew Weigman took the loss, making 22 saves. Michigan 2 @ Port Huron 3 – The Fighting Falcons won their fourth straight game, while the Warriors dropped their third straight as Port Huron broke a 2-2 deadlock with the only goal in the 3rd period to edge Michigan, 3-2.  Matthew Uvodich got Port Huron on the board less than three minutes into the game with assists to Dan Dupell and Nick Horne.  Michigan answered with two goals in a span of five minutes to take a 2-1 lead as Mitchell Wedding and Brad Pung lit the lamp.  The tide of the game turned midway through the 2nd period as Alex Blankenburg stopped a penalty shot attempt from Brad Pizzey.  Two minutes later, Uvodich tied the game at 2-2.  In the 3rd period, Dupell picked up his second point of the night with the eventual game-winning goal with assists to Rick DeRosa and Mick Bruce.  Blankenburg made 22 saves in the win, while Dillon Kelley took the loss for Michigan, making 32 saves.
