Saturday Scores: Bulls sit atop NAHL with weekend sweep

 Austin 2 @ Bismarck 5 – Matt Anders had a goal and assist and Aaron Nelson made 29 saves as the Bobcats picked up a big 5-2 home win over the Bruins on Saturday.  The Bobcats controlled play from the opening face-off, scoring twice in the first 2:07 of the game as Anders and Matt Pohlkamp scored.  Shane Omdahl added a 2nd period goal to make it 3-0.  Drew Anderson and John Simonson added 3rd period goals for the Bruins, while Patrick Moore and Bob Kinne scored in the 3rd period for Bismarck. Amarillo 4 @ Wichita Falls 2 – The Bulls completed a weekend road sweep of the Wildcats in Wichita Falls with a 4-2 win on Saturday.  TJ Sarcona scored the game’s first goal on the power play in the 1st period.  Kyle Bauman answered back early in the 2nd period for Wichita Falls, but Brady Ferguson gave Amarillo a lead they would never lose with a goal midway through the period.  Tyler Gernhofer and Gage Christianson added 3rd period tallies, while George Pagonis scored for Wichita Falls in the 3rd. Johnstown 3 @ Janesville 1 – The Tomahawks got 32 saves from goaltender Chris Truehl as they picked up a weekend road split with the Jets with a 3-1 win on Saturday.  Mike Sullivan started the scoring for the Jets early in the 1st period, but Mitch Hall answered back on the power play for Johnstown.  JB Baker gave the Tomahawks the lead for good in the 2nd period with the eventual game-winning goal and Casey Nelson added a 3rd period goal for insurance. Springfield 5 @ Kalamazoo 6 (OT) – In one of the more improbable endings of the season, the Jr. K-Wings tied the game with two goals in the final :27 seconds of regulation and then got a backdoor goal from Danny Hamburg to defeat Springfield 6-5 in overtime.  Brett Skibba had a hat-trick and Parker Johnson and Ryan Atkinson also had goals for the Jr. Blues.  Robbie Payne, Christian George, Mike Fazio, Taylor Burden and Kyle Gattelaro scored for the Jr. K-Wings in regulation.  Gattelaro’s game-tying goal went in with just :02 seconds remaining in regulation. Wenatchee 4 @ Fresno 1 – The Wild won their 5th straight game and increased their West Division lead to 9 points with a 4-1 win and weekend sweep of Fresno.  Trevor Stewart made his presence felt again as he scored the Wild’s first and last goals of the night.  Jacob Barber added a 1st period power play goal for the Wild.  Matt Salituro scored the lone Monsters goal, which made the score 2-1.  However, Max McHugh’s goal late in the 2nd period made it 3-1 and Stewarts 2nd of the game made it 4-1.  Nick Schmit made 19 saves in the win. Fairbanks 2 @ Kenai River 3 (SO) – Despite a 41-24 shots advantage, the Ice Dogs could not pull off the win as they were shutout down again by Marcus Zelzer as the Brown Bears won their 6th straight game win a 3-2 shootout win. Fairbanks had to play catch up again as Kenai took a 2-0 lead on goals from Albin Karlsson and Brad LeLievre.  Late goals in the 3rd period from the Ice Dogs Jayson Angus and Brett Gervais sent the game to a shootout where Kenai’s Alec Butcher scored the lone goal. Aberdeen 6 @ Coulee Region 4 – The Wings scored three times in the 3rd period to break open a tie game on their way to a 6-4 win and weekend split with the Chill.  Andy Faust scored twice for Coulee Region and Cam Bleck and Derek O’Flynn also had goals for the Chill.  Aberdeen had the score tied at three with goals from Kyle Haak, Justin Parizek and Patrick Steinhauser.  In the 3rd period, Jonathan Grebosky scored twice and Tanner Holmquist added the other goal. Port Huron 2 @ Michigan 1 – The Fighting Falcons got 21 saves from Max Milosek and held on to an early lead to post a big win over rival Michigan, 2-1 on Saturday.  Mitch Maloney started the scoring in the 1st period with assists to Vito Aluia and Kyle Plageman.  Tyler Spezia made it 2-0 early in the 2nd period on a power play goal with assists to David Parrottino and Easton Powers.  TJ Stuntz scored the lone Michigan goal :38 seconds later, but the Warriors could not get the game tied in the 3rd period. Jamestown 1 @ Soo 5 – Three 3rd period goals were the difference as the Eagles salvaged a weekend home split with the Ironmen thanks to a 5-1 win on Saturday night.  The teams traded goals in the 1st period as Eric Rivard lit the lamp for Soo and Luc Gerdes scored for Jamestown.  Chris Waterstreet gave Soo the lead for good in the 2nd period and followed it up with another goal in the 3rd period.  Jared Van Wormer and Michael Crowley also had goals in the Eagles win.
