Weekend Wrap-Up: Johnstown gets back on track with Sunday win
Soo 2 @ Johnstown 6 – The Tomahawks snapped their small losing skid with a big 6-2 win over the 1st place Soo Eagles to finish the weekend. Johnstown scored the opening two goals within a :49 second span in the 1st period as Andrew McDonald and Connor Wright lit the lamp for a 2-0 lead. After a goal from Soo’s Pat Thompson, the Tomahawks scored three straight on goals from Jaycob McCombs, Brandon Reinholz and another from McDonald. Brandon Adam scored for the Eagles in the 3rd period to make it 5-2, but a late goal from captain Mitch Kontny made the final, 6-2. Boxscore
Michigan 1 @ Kalamazoo 5 – Alex Okicki made 36 saves as the K-Wings completed a weekend home-and-home sweep of the Warriors with a 5-1 win on Sunday. Kalamazoo jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the 1st period on goals from Davis Dekorte and Brendan Vetter. The lead increased to 4-0 in the 2nd period on power play goals from Brett Beauvais and Taylor Burden. Brock Labelle scored the lone Michigan goal late in the 2nd period. Port Huron 1 @ Jamestown 2 – The Ironmen picked up a 2-1 win over Port Huron to wrap up the weekend. Despite a 42-17 shots advantage, the Ironmen found scoring against Fighting Falcons goaltender Max Milosek to be a tough task. Ross Pavek got Jamestown on the board in the 1st period with assists to Nico Sierra and Tyler Dunagan. Nick Horne tied the game for Port Huron with assists to Vito Aluia and Ryan Nick. However, the game-winner came with less than five minutes remaining as Michael Mazzotta scored his first goal of the season. Boxscore
