Saturday Scores: Minot completes sweep of 1st place Bruins

Austin 0 @ Minot 1 – The goaltending continued on Saturday night in Minot as Tyler Parks bested Nick Lehr as the Minotauros completed a weekend home sweep of the Bruins with a 1-0 shutout victory.  Parks and Lehr continued to turn away every shot they saw and it was scoreless after the first.  Then early in the 2nd period Zach Holstrom found Jadin Martin behind the Bruins defense.  Martin came streaking in along the right wing boards cut towards the net; he fired a wrist shot past Lehr putting the Tauros ahead 1-0.  The Tauros missed a chance to extend the lead when they failed to score on a prolonged powerplay which ran almost six minutes including 0:18 of a 5-on-3 advantage.  In the end Parks made it stand up stopping 22 shots on the night including 11 in the final period to lead the Tauros to a 1-0 victory and a weekend sweep. Wichita Falls 3 @ Topeka 5 – The RoadRunners erased a 3-0 deficit after two periods with five goals in the 3rd period on their way to a 5-3 win at home on Saturday, salvaging a weekend split with Wichita Falls.  Tyler Andrew scored twice including the game-winning goal.  Clint Garris, Collin Montgomery and Tyler Poulsen also all scored in the 3rd period.  Wichita Falls lead 3-0 after two periods with two shorthanded goals from Eliot Grauer and Kyle Bauman and an unassisted goal from Rudy Junda. Kalamazoo 0 @ Janesville 5 – Brock Kautz stopped all 28 shots for his first shutout of the season as the Jets salvaged a weekend split with the K-Wings thanks to a 5-0 shutout win.  Four of Janesville’s five goals came on special teams including two power play goals from Ryan Dau and another from Donovan Gardiner.  Eric Cruickshank scored a shorthanded goal and Jason Ford added an even strength goal in the win. Corpus Christi 2 @ Amarillo 4 – The Bulls erased an early 2-0 deficit on their way to a 4-2 home win over the IceRays.  Perry D’Arrisso and Rudy Sulmonte scored in the 1st period to give Corpus Christi a 2-0 lead after one period.  Amarillo stormed back with three goals in the 2nd period off the sticks of Mike Davis, Carter Penzien and Tyler Rostenkowski.  Ryan Cole added a 3rd period power play goal to secure the win for the Bulls in front of over 3,100 fans in Amarillo. Springfield 1 @ Soo 2 – Zach Nagelvoort made 27 saves as the Soo Eagles completed a weekend home sweep of the Springfield Jr. Blues with a 2-1 win on Saturday.  Jared Van Wormer gave the Eagles an early 1-0 lead in the 1st period.  Brett Skibba answered back for the Jr. Blues in the 2nd period.  However, Alex Robert scored the game-winning goal with less than five minutes left in the 3rd period.  Jr. Blues goalie Ryan Kellenberger made 35 saves in the loss. Texas 6 @ Odessa 3 – The Tornado completed a weekend sweep in Odessa and handed the Jackalopes their 8th straight loss with a 6-3 win on Saturday.  Justin Greenberg had his second straight three point game with two goals and an assist.  Alex Temby, Scott Conway, Jason Eddy and Louie Rowe also scored for Texas, who scored four goals in the 3rd period.  Zane Popilock, Jalen Krogman and Anthony Olguin scored for Odessa. Bismarck 5 @ Aberdeen 4 -  The Bobcats jumped out to a 4-1 lead and withstood a late barrage from the Wings to salvage a weekend split with the Wings thanks to a 5-4 win on Saturday.  Patrick Moore, Mike Dockry, Chris Diver and Adam Knochenmus answered an opening goal from Aberdeen’s Justin Parizek to give the Bobcats a 4-1 lead after two periods.  Knochenmus added another in the 3rd period, which turned out to be the game winner after goals from the Wings Jake Horton, Zach Kraft and Peter Krieger. Johnstown 0 @ Wenatchee 1 – It took 39 shots, but the Wild got a 3rd period shorthanded goal from Jono Davis with less than eight minutes remaining in a 1-0 win over the Tomahawks to salvage a weekend split.  Robert Nichols made 18 saves for his league-leading 4th shutout of the season.  Tomahawks goaltender Chris Truehl was equally as good, making 38 saves in the one goal loss. With the win, the Wild moved into a tie for 1st place in the West. Boxscore

Fairbanks 0 @ Kenai River 2 – Gustaf Johansson stopped all 30 shots for his third NAHL shutout as Kenai River completed a weekend home sweep of division-leading Fairbanks.  Brian Berry scored Kenai’s first goal, which turned out to be the game-winner, in the 1st period with assists from Alec Butcher and Albin Karlsson.  Ryan Walker added a 3rd period power play goal with an assist from Alex Jackstadt.  Fairbanks goalie Kevin Aldridge made 24 saves in the loss. Jamestown 4 @ Fresno 0 – The Ironmen maintained their three point lead in the North Division thanks to a 4-0 shutout win, completing a weekend sweep of the Monsters.  Reid Mimmack made 20 saves for his second shutout of the year.  Nico Sierra and Ross Pavek scored in the 1st period to give Jamestown a 2-0 lead.  Matthew Crockett and Luc Gerdes scored in the 3rd period to secure the win in front of over 4,800 fans in Fresno.
