Four teams remain undefeated after Day 3 at the NAHL Showcase
BLAINE, MINNESOTA – Day 3 of the NAHL Showcase came to a close on Friday and it was another exciting day for the scouts and fans in attendance. All 12 games on Friday were decided by three goals or less and it sets things up for an exciting Saturday, the final day of competition for the NAHL teams. The marquee game of the day on Saturday will be the undefeated Wenatchee Wild facing off against the undefeated Brookings Blizzard, with the winner guaranteed a 4-0-0 finish. The undefeated Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings face-off against 2-1-0 Aberdeen Wings, while the undefeated Texas Tornado face the 1-2-0 Coulee Region Chill. If more than one team finishes with a perfect 4-0-0 record, the Showcase crown will be decided on goal differential. View all the games from the Showcase live on FASTHockey. Odessa Jackalopes 5 vs. Kenai River Brown Bears 4 (OT) – In the first game of the day, the Odessa Jackalopes picked up their first win of the 2012-13 season as Lawrence Cornellier scored :22 seconds into the extra frame to give the Jacks the win. Kenai River had three leads in the game after goals from Eric Shand, Kirk Van Arkel, Chris Nuth and Carson Vance but each time the Jacks answered back with goals from Ryan Doucet, Pat Thompson and Anthony Olguins. Cornellier had two goals in the game as he also scored in the 2nd period as well. Boxscore
Topeka RoadRunners 4 vs. Coulee Region Chill 1 – The Chill scored first, but it was all RoadRunners after that as Topeka scored four unanswered goals on their way to a 4-1 win over Coulee Region. Hunter Anderson lit the lamp in the 1st period, but Cam Bleck, Drew Kariofiles and Sean Gaffney all struck in the 2nd period with goals for the RoadRunners. Dan Dupell added a 3rd period shorthanded goal to put the game out of reach. Spencer Viele posted the win making 15 saves, while Devin Kero made 35 saves in the loss. Boxscore
Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings 6 vs. Minot Minotauros 3 – Kalamazoo forward scored his league-leading 4th and 5th goals of the season as the Wings doubled up the Minotauros, 6-3 to stay perfect on the season. Nick Kovalchik and Kyle Gattelaro gave the Wings a 2-0 lead in the 1st period, while Lucas Oliver answered for Minot to make it 2-1. Payne scored once in the 2nd period and again in the 3rd period as did AJ Marcinek and Josh Dangel for Kalamazoo. Minot’s other goals in the losing effort came from Brenden Gust and Ryan Doner, both in the 3rd period. Boxscore
Port Huron Fighting Falcons 2 vs. Amarillo Bulls 1 (SO) – Fighting Falcons goaltender Max Milosek shined and shut down the Amarillo Bulls, making 36 saves and then stopping all five shooters in the shootout as Port Huron won, 2-1. Omar Mullan gave the Bulls the early lead, but Port Huron tied the game in the 3rd period off the stick of Kody Polin. Amarillo goaltender Paul Berrafato was good as well, making 18 saves and stopping four shooters in the shootout, however Easton Powers got the lone goal in the shootout for the win. Boxscore
Fairbanks Ice Dogs 4 vs. Bismarck Bobcats 1 – The Ice Dogs defense stifled the Bobcats offense, allowing just 16 shots on goal in a 4-1 win. Fairbanks never trailed as they opened up a 3-0 lead with goals from Kyle Lee, Jacob Hetz and Devin Loe. Sam Coborn scored the lone goal for the Bobcats in the 3rd period, but it was answered back by a penalty shot goal from Logan Wendling. Steve Perry got the win in goal for Fairbanks, making 15 saves, while Bryan Nies took the loss making 22 saves. Boxscore
Springfield Jr. Blues 5 vs. Wichita Falls Wildcats 2 – Head coach Tony Zasowski and the Springfield Jr. Blues pick up their first win as they scored three goals in the 3rd period to finish off the Wichita Falls Wildcats, 5-2. Russell Jordan gave the Blues the early 1-0 lead. Cody Dixon increased the lead to 2-0. Ben Kucera scored for the Wildcats to make it 2-1. In the big 3rd period for the Jr. Blues, Brett Skibba scored twice and Alex Baskakov added a power play goal. Kyle Bauman had the other marker for the Wildcats. Tyler Fallica posted the win for the Jr. Blues making 35 saves, while Evan Cowley took the loss making 28 saves. Boxscore
Jamestown Ironmen 4 vs. Corpus Christi IceRays 1 – The Ironmen picked up their second straight win thanks to a three goal, 3rd period and multi-point game’s from Ross Pavek and Tyler Dunagan. Jeff McFarland gave the Ironmen an early 1-0 lead. The lead increased to 2-0 with Dunagan’s goal early in the 3rd period. Luc Gerdes made it 3-0 Jamestown midway through the 3rd period before the ‘Rays Ian McGilvrey scored the lone goal for Corpus Christi. Pavek added an empty-netter in the 4-1 win. Tim Shaughnessy was again solid in goal making 21 saves, while Jeff Salinas suffered the loss making 32 saves. Boxscore
Wenatchee Wild 3 vs. Michigan Warriors 0 – It took until the 3rd period for either team to score, but the Wild ending up with three, 3rd period goals to stay perfect on the season with a 3-0 shutout of the Michigan Warriors. Evan McCarthy picked up the shutout, stopping all 19 shots. Nicholas Kuchera, Trace Redmond and Evan Schmidbauer all scored in the 3rd period for Wenatchee. Trevor Gorsuch took the loss in goal for Michigan making 24 saves. Boxscore
Fresno Monsters 4 vs. Aberdeen Wings 3 – The Monsters handed the Wings their first loss of the season as Sean Kalbak scored the game-winning goal with two minutes remaining in regulation to give Fresno their second win of the season. Kalbak and Mitchell Snyder each had three point night’s for Fresno. Zack Holmstrom had the other marker for the Monsters, while the Wings got goals from Heinz Koster, Justin Parizek and Joe Sullivan. Austin Bruins 5 vs. Johnstown Tomahawks 4 (OT) – In one of the more thrilling games of the day, the Bruins Riley Colvard snapped a shot past Johnstown’s Chris Truehl to give the Bruins a 5-4 overtime win. The goal was Colvard’s second of the game. Cody Gylling scored twice for the Tomahawks in the loss. With the game tied at 3-3 in the final minute, CJ Smith put Austin ahead with :38 seconds to go, only to see Johnstown tie the game as Mitch Kontny put home a loose puck in front during a mad scramble with just :07 second remaining to force the extra session. Brookings Blizzard 2 vs. Soo Eagles 0 – Goaltender Nick Deery stopped all 25 shots that came his way as the Blizzard stayed perfect on the season with a 2-0 shutout win over the Soo Eagles. Brookings captain Thomas Williams assited on both Blizzard goals, which came in the 2nd period. Nick DeCenzo scored first on the power play and then Grant Eichstadt added the second goal about nine minutes later. Soo goaltender Tyler Marble took the loss, making 20 saves. Boxscore
Texas Tornado 5 vs. Janesville Jets 3 – The Tornado remained perfect on the season and displayed another game with a high powered offense as they topped the Jets, 5-3 thanks to Justin Greenberg’s four-point night. Goals from CJ Reuschlein and Scott Conway gave Texas an early 2-0 lead. Janesville answered back with goals from Austin Vieth and Jordan Himley. Texas would stike back early in the 3rd period for two more goals as Anthony Mousseau and Alex Temby scored. Janesville cut the lead to one as Matthieu Audet lit the lamp, but a rocket slapshot from Jason Eddy gave Texas their final edge. Boxscore
