Saturday scores: Minot gets landmark win over Bismarck

Bismarck 1 @ Minot 2 - In their fourth try of the season the Minot Minotauros knocked off Central Division-leading Bismarck Bobcats with 2-1 win on Saturday in Minot.  Minot's Jadin Martin broke a 1-1 tie with a goal late in the second period. Martin was assisted by Kevin Walz.  Bismarck struck first with a Nick Turbitt goal just 2 minutes and 38 seconds into the game. Minot captain Ben Hughes answered midway through the first period with a goal set up by Buster Hebda and Joe Hockert.  The shots were even in the game with both teams firing 27 shots on goal.  Tim Shaughnessy got the win in goal for Minot, making 26 saves, while Tommy Burke suffered the loss for the Bobcats making 25 saves.  A capacity crowd of over 1,200 fans were on hand to see the Minot win. Alaska 2 @ Kenai River 3 – On the strength of goals from Brett Lubanski, Kellen Wasell and Raymond Stenehjem and two assists from Jesse Ramsey, the Brown Bears salvaged a split of the series with a close 3-2 win at home over the Avs. Nick Kulmanovsky made 35 saves in the loss, while Austin Severson made 23 saves for the win. Dawson Creek 2 @ Fairbanks 7 – The Ice Dogs crept closer to 1st place completing a weekend sweep of the Rage with a convincing 7-2 home win over the Rage.  JT Osborn had four points as did Gabe Levin, while Tayler Munson scored twice and Sean O’Rourke had three assists in the win. Boxscore

Wenatchee 4 @ Fresno 3 (OT) – Blake Saylor scored with less than a minute remaining in OT to give Wenatchee a series split in Fresno.  Ben Carey had a goal and two assists to lead the Wild, while Zak Wallace scored twice in the losing effort for the Monsters.  Wenatchee outshot Fresno, 35-24. Austin 2 @ Alexandria 5 – Goalie Jacob Meyers and the 2nd place Blizzard kept rolling with a 5-2 win at home.  The Blizzard got goals from five different players, including Jordan Palusky’s eventual game-winning goal in a three-goal 1st period for Alexandria.  Tucker Coborn chimed in with two assists as the Blizzard outshot Austin, 39-30. Amarillo 4 @ Topeka 2 – Topeka jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Ryan Doucet and Dan Dupell, but the Bulls would score the next four en route to a weekend road sweep of the RoadRunners.  Brooks Behling, the NAHL’s leading goal-scorer added two more to his total as did teammate Greg Gibson as Amarillo became the first NAHL team to reach 20 wins this season. Texas 3 @ Odessa 0 – Goaltender Joakim Jutras stopped all 22 shots for his third shutout of the season as Texas blanked the Jackalopes on the road.  John Kirtland, Skyler Spiller and Mitchell McPherson all scored in the 2nd period in the Texas win.  Jacks goalie Connor Hellebuyck made 32 saves in the losing effort. New Mexico 2 @ Corpus Christi 0 – Goaltender Randy Graham stopped all 33 IceRays shots for his first shutout of the season as New Mexico picked up a road shutout of Corpus Christi.  Marcus Nordlund’s power play goal in the 2nd period proved to be the game-winner and Cody Walsh also scored for New Mexico in the win. Janesville 3 @ Coulee Region 1 – The Jets salvaged a weekend road split with the Chill thanks to a 3-1 win on Saturday.  Goaltender Tony Kujava made 22 saves and Janesville got goals from Joey Sanchez, Pijus Rulevicius and Chris Cattivera.  With the win, the Jets took sole possession of 1st place in the Midwest Division. Michigan 4 @ Jamestown 5 (SO) – Joe Ballmer made 41 saves and stopped all four shooters in the shootout as the Ironmen crept closer to a playoff spot in the North Division with a weekend home sweep of Michigan.  Anthony Coles chipped in with a team-leading 13th goal in the win for Jamestown. Kalamazoo 1 @ Port Huron 4 – Brett D’Andrea scored twice and Max Milosek made 31 saves as the Fighting Falcons widened their lead in the North Division to six points with a win over 2nd place Kalamazoo.  Nico Sierra and Mike Moroso also scored for Port Huron, while Andrew Graves had the lone goal for the Jr. K-Wings in the loss.
