Odessa forward Bajzer makes NCAA DI commitment

March 30, 2023

The Odessa Jackalopes, a proud member of the North American Hockey League, are pleased to announce that Top Prospects forward Tanyon Bajzer has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Miami University in the NCHC. Bajzer is the third Jackalopes player to commit for the 2022-23 season.

Bajzer, 20, is in his second and final season in the NAHL. The 6’1/170 lbs. native of Cleveland, OH, started his NAHL career last season with Odessa. Bajzer played 49 games in his rookie year and finished with 29 points (18 goals, 11 assists), which put him T-6th in points and he finished third in goals.

So far during the 2022-23 season, the right-handed forward is currently 2nd on the team in points (45) and goals (20). He ranks third in assists with 25. Bajzer also leads the team in shooting percentage at 16.7%.

He has been named South Division Star of the Week twice in his career. Also, the assistant captain was selected to represent Team South at the 2023 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament where he put up one goal and two assists through two games.

Miami University is located in Oxford, OH. The RedHawks play in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC). Miami added hockey to its list of sports in 1978 and has been a member of the NCAA since the 1993-94 season. The RedHawks have made the NCAA Tournament 12 times and the Frozen Four twice. They have had 36 players reach the NHL and three play in the Olympics. Miami is currently led by Head Coach Chris Bergeron.

“Getting the opportunity to play at Miami University means the world to me. Ever since I was young it has been my dream to come back and play Division I hockey in the state that has shaped me into the player that I am today,” said Bajzer. “Playing for Odessa has given me the opportunity to achieve this dream. Coach Deur and Coach Francis took a chance on me when I was traded from Kenai River and helped mold my game so I can succeed at the next level.”

“From the coaching staff, front office, teammates, billet families, and friends; I have received nothing but positive support and guidance over my two years in Odessa. Finally, I would like to thank everyone involved especially my parents, who have sacrificed so much to help me achieve my commitment. I look forward to getting things started come fall,” said Bajzer.

Head Coach Scott Deur stated this regarding Bajzer’s commitment, “Tanyon is a great young man, who I am proud to have worn the Jackalopes jersey for the last two seasons. He sets a great example for his teammates through his work ethic on and off the ice. I can’t wait to see him continue his career at Miami University.”
