January 20, 2023

Fresh off the announcement of the 2023 NAHL Top Prospects rosters on Thursday, the NAHL enters another busy weekend of action with 23 games on the schedule Friday and Saturday.

As January rolls on, there are many key dates coming up including the 2023 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament and the USA Hockey Trading deadline.

The 2023 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament, which will be held on February 6-7, 2023 at the UPMC Lemieux Center in suburban Pittsburgh, PA. The NAHL will field four teams for the event, one for each division.

It was another good week for NCAA commitments as several more players made NCAA Division I commitments as the current season total is now up to 172 committed players.

In addition to the commitments, the NAHL saw 11 players with NHL ties ranked in the NHL’s Central Scouting Mid-Term Rankings.

In the Central this weekend, things got started early as Bismarck shutout Aberdeen on Thursday, 6-0. The two teams turn around and travel to Bismarck for more games on Friday and Saturday. The 1st place Austin Bruins hold the largest lead of any of the four division leaders as they will face St. Cloud in a home-and-home series. Minot and North Iowa are idle.

In the East, the Northeast Generals moved into a tie for 2nd place thanks to a 9-1 win on Thursday over the Rebels. The teams conclude the series on Friday. In other action, the 1st place Maryland Black Bears are in Maine, and New Jersey is in Danbury as the Jr. Hat Tricks look to snap their 22-game losing streak.

The Midwest has a full schedule of games as the Minnesota Wilderness look to snap a three-game slide as they have a home-and-home series with Chippewa. The Janesville Jets are in Springfield for a pair of games. Meanwhile, teams are back in Alaska as Kenai River travels to Anchorage and the Wisconsin Windigo look to build on their win on Thursday with two more games in Fairbanks.
