Springfield forward Lonsdale makes NCAA DI commitment

January 12, 2023

The Springfield Jr. Blues, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that forward Cole Lonsdale has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in Atlantic Hockey.

Lonsdale, 18,, hails from Mississauga, Onatario, and joined the Jr. Blues just after the NAHL Showcase in September. In 24 games played for Springfield he has tallied 9 goals and 12 assists for 21 total points. He has additionally played in 6 games for the Madison Capitols of the USHL this season and recorded 1 goal.

“Cole has been one of our most reliable and dependable players from the moment he arrived in Springfield,” said Head Coach Tyler Rennette. “He has a lot of skill and potential and we are excited to see what he’s able to do at the next level. RIT just got a wonderful player and an even better young man.”

Last season, Lonsdale (5’11/165) played 53 games for his hometown Mississauga Chargers of the OJHL and picked up 17 goals and 26 assists - leading his team in both categories. Prior to playing juniors Cole skated for the Don Mills Flyers and the Toronto Titans.

“I’m proud to announce my commitment to play Division 1 hockey at the Rochester Institute of Technology,” said Cole on Instagram. “I would like to thank everyone who has helped me along the way. Go Tigers!”

Cole joins Jake Peterson (Air Force), Tyler Borgula (Quinnipiac), and James Callahan (Air Force) as the fourth player to commit to a NCAA Division 1 program this season. Those four are joined by Edvards Bergmanis (Alaska-Fairbanks), Nikita Nikora (Dartmouth), Adyn Merrick (Northern Michigan), and Mac Gadowsky (Army-West Point) who all committed to their programs prior to the season.
