Saturday Scores: Mudbugs win streak hits six with sweep
New Jersey forward Anthony Calafiore had five points in a weekend sweep of Johnstown.
El Paso 1 @ Shreveport 6 – Defenseman Logan Heroux had two goals and an assist to lead the Mudbugs to a 6-1 win on Saturday, which completed a weekend sweep of the Rhinos and extended the Mudbugs winning streak to six straight games. After a scoreless 1st period, the Mudbugs erupted for five goals in the 2dn period, which included two from Heroux and others from Logan Gotinsky, Hayden Nichol, and Eric Vitale. Kason Muscutt would add a goal in the 3rd period to complete the scoring for Shreveport. Tyler Green had the lone goal in the Rhinos loss. Nikola Goich made 14 saves in the win, while CJ Kier made 34 saves in the loss.
Oklahoma 4 @ Amarillo 1 – Warriors goalie Daniel Duris made 25 saves to lead Oklahoma to a 4-1 win in Amarillo, which completed a weekend sweep of the Wranglers. Oklahoma jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st period with goals from Joey Delgreco and Drew Sutton. Amarillo pulled to within 2-1 with their lone goal from Nathan Walker in the 2nd period. The Warriors would then pull away with goals from Owen Carlile and Brendan Williams. Wranglers goalie Carter Clafton made 18 saves in the loss.
Johnstown 2 @ New Jersey 4 - The New Jersey Titans finished off the sweep of the Johnstown Tomahawks with a 4-2 win on Saturday night. With the victory, the Titans extended their point streak to 15 games. Anthony Calafiore had a goal and an assist while Tyler Sanborn had two helpers. Leo Schwartz, Levente Keresztes and Ethan Wongus all scored for New Jersey in the win. Ryan Vellucci and Ryan Panico scored for Johnstown in the loss. Zakari Brice earned the win in goal yet again as he made 30 stops. Alec Rajalin-Scharp was given the loss in net as he made 38 stops.
Maine 3 @ Maryland 4 - Christian Catalano scored his second goal of the game with just over four minutes remaining in regulation to lift the Maryland Black Bears to a 4-3 win over the Maine Nordiques. Kal Essenmacher and Hunter Ramos also lit the lamp for Maryland in the victory. Laurent Trepanier, Jonny Meiers and Henrik Hallberg registered the goals for the Nordiques. William Hakansson netted the win in between the pipes as he made 22 saves. Kael Depape was dealt the loss with 34 saves of his own.
Fairbanks 2 @ Springfield 1 - The Fairbanks Ice Dogs doubled up the Springfield Jr. Blues 2-1 on Saturday night to secure a series sweep. Colin Goff netted his eighth of the season in the opening frame to put Fairbanks ahead. Tyler Herzberg scored his eighth of the year to extend the Ice Dogs advantage with the assists going to Jack Thomas and Brady Welsch. Jake Peterson spoiled the shutout for Kayden Hargraves but it was too little too late for the Jr. Blues. Hargraves finished the night with 28 saves to pick up the win in the blue paint for the Ice Dogs. Aksel Reid was the loser in goal as he made 32 stops.
Aberdeen 2 @ Austin 4 - The Austin Bruins took care of the Aberdeen Wings to pick up a series split with a 4-2. After Landon Parker got the Wings on the board first, Austin Salani, Sam Christiano and Matys Brassard scored three straight goals to put the Bruins up 3-1. Logan Gravnik brought Aberdeen back within one heading into the final frame but Walter Zacher’s 18th of the year gave Austin some insurance and that would go on to be the final margin. Ethan Robertson stopped 17 of 19 shots to earn the win in net. Cole Moore took the loss in net, he made 27 stops.
Chippewa 1 @ Janesville 5 - The Janesville Jets gave up the first goal of the game but then scored five unanswered as the Jets took down the Chippewa Steel 5-1. Parker Mabbett tied the game just nine seconds after Tomas Trunda gave the Steel an early lead. Gabriel Lundberg and Ryan Williams netted goals in the middle frame while Jimmy Doyle and Connor Deturris chipped in goals in the third period. Dylan Johnson was nearly perfect as he stopped 34 of 35 shots he faced. Carter Wishart made 21 saves in a losing effort for Chippewa.
Northeast 4 @ Philadelphia 7 - Connor Sedlak potted a pair of goals and added an assist as the Rebels defeated the Generals 7-4. David Deputy also found the back of the net twice for Philadelphia while Declan Loughnane, Carter Casper and Kristians Samitis all visited the red light district. David Andreychuk had a goal and two helpers for Northeast while Paul Minnehan and Jake LaRusso each tallied a goal and an assist. Emerson Miller also tickled the twine for Northeast. Jakub Krbecek earned the win by making 25 saves, Cullen DeYoung and Toby Hopp combined to make 36 saves for the Generals.
Bismarck 0 @ North Iowa 2 – Bulls goalie Stefan Carney stopped all 30 shots for his first shutout of the season as the Bulls earned a weekend split against the Bobcats thanks to a 2-0 win on Saturday. The game was a goaltending duel and scoreless until midway through the 3rd period as Nolan Abraham opened the scoring to make it 1-0. Blake Ulve would add an empty-net goal to make the final score, 2-0. Bobcats goalie Hunter Garvey played well in the loss making 33 saves.
Kenai River 1 @ Minnesota 0 (SO) – Each team earned three points in the weekend series as a shootout once again decided things with the Brown Bears coming out on top, 1-0. Both goalies were credited with shutouts as Nils Wallstrom made 25 saves in the shootout win and Isak Posch made 31 saves in the shootout loss. Ryan Finch and Hunter Newhouse scored in the shootout for Kenai River, while Kevin Marx Noren scored in the shootout for the Wilderness.
Lone Star 3 @ New Mexico 1 – Brahmas goalie Arthur Smith made 23 saves to help his team to a 3-1 win and weekend road split in New Mexico. After a scoreless 1st period, the Brahmas took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd period with a power play goal from Johan Rosenquist. In the 3rd period, the Brahmas would add two more goals from Matthew MacDonald and Bauer Swift. Tony Leahy had the lone goal in the Ice Wolves loss. New Mexico goalie Will Craig made 14 saves in the loss.
St. Cloud 3 @ Minot 6 – Minotauros forward Chase LaPinta had a hat-trick to help the Minotauros to their second straight win as they moved into 2nd place in the Central Division thanks to a 6-3 win over St. Cloud on Friday. St. Cloud jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Nik Hong and Hunter Hanson. Minot tied the game at 2-2 in the 2nd period with goals from Bryce Howard and LaPinta. In the 3rd period, the Norsemen took the lead back at 3-2 with a goal from Elmeri Hallfors. The Minotauros then rattled off four straight goals later in the 3rd period, including two more from LaPinta and others from Trevor Stachowiak and Adam Mahler. Erik Chaffe made 21 saves in his Minotauros debut, while Ethan Dahlmeir made 25 saves in the loss.
