NAHL Weekend Preview

The NAHL is back in action this weekend for the first full weekend of games in 2023 as the sprint to the playoffs begins.

There are 25 games on the schedule on Friday and Saturday as the halfway point of the 2022-23 regular season has come and gone and crunch time begins.

This weekend is also important because after the games on Saturday, January 7th, the standings freeze to determine the number of spots and coaches for the 2023 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament.

The 2023 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament, which will be held on February 6-7, 2023 at the UPMC Lemieux Center in suburban Pittsburgh, PA. The NAHL will field four teams for the event, one for each division.

It was another good week for NCAA commitments as a couple more players made NCAA Division I commitments as the current season total is now up to 164 committed players.

In the Central Division this weekend, it is a battle of 1 vs. 2 as Austin hosts Aberdeen. The Bismarck Bobcats look to get out of the Central cellar as they travel to North Iowa. The final series as St. Cloud in Minot for two more games. The Norsemen beat the Minotauros on Thursday, 9-2.

In the East, the red-hot Maine Nordiques are in Maryland to take on the 1st place Black Bears in what would be a playoff preview of the playoffs started today. In other action, Johnstown is in New Jersey and Northeast is at Philadelphia. Danbury is idle.

In the Midwest, the battle for 1st place continues as the Wilderness, who are tied for 1st with Fairbanks, will host 3rd place Kenai River. Meanwhile, Fairbanks is in Springfield to take on the last place Jr. Blues. In other action, Chippewa is in Janesville for a pair of games. Anchorage and Wisconsin are idle.

In the South, the 1st place Lone Star Brahmas are 8-0-2 in their last 10 and travel to New Mexico for a series against the 4th place Ice Wolves.  Shreveport looks to build on their four-game winning streak as they host El Paso. Oklahoma is in Amarillo for pair of games and Odessa is in Corpus Christi on Friday as they look for a series sweep after a 7-3 win on Thursday.
