Saturday Scores: Jr. Blues stay hot with weekend sweep

Springfield 6 @ Janesville 2 - Paul Byrne and Mike Williams scored two goals apiece and goalie Tyler Parks made 31 saves Saturday night to lead the Springfield Junior Blues to their third straight victory, 6-2 over the Janesville Jets. The Blues (7-9-0) swept a two-game series from Janesville (10-2-1) and have won three in a row for the first time this season. Byrne opened the scoring at 19 seconds of the first period to give the Junior Blues a lead they never relinquished. Byrne also scored in the third period to make it 4-2, and then Williams added the last two goals.  Josef Pontasch and Gavin Tufte also scored for Springfield.  Janesville outshot the Junior Blues 33-27, but Parks frustrated the Jets for the second straight night. He made 29 saves Friday in the Junior Blues’ 3-2 victory.

Coulee Region 3 @ St. Louis 7 – The Bandits jumped out a 4-0 lead and never looked back, earning a weekend split in the series.  Seven different Bandits players had multi-point nights.

Port Huron 3 @ Michigan 0 – The Fighting Falcons got 18 saves from goaltender Peter Megariotis and the game-winning goal from Brett D’Andrea as they won a big divisional road game, 3-0.

Kalamazoo 2 @ Jamestown 1 – Nick Kovalchik scored the game-winning goal midway through the 3rd period as Kalamazoo edged the Ironmen.  Kenneth MacLean made 30 saves in the winning effort for the Jr. K-Wings.

Wichita Falls 1 @ Amarillo 4 – John Gustafsson had three points and TJ Sarcona recorded two assists as Amarillo won their fifth straight and stayed in 1st place in the South with a 4-1 win over the Wildcats.

Minot 3 @ Austin 6 – Trevor Waldoch and Chris Fischer each had three point nights, while John Simonson scored twice as the Bruins doubled up the Minotauros at home.

Topeka 3 @ Odessa 0 – Josh Hillegas stopped all 23 shots and the RoadRunners got goals from Dan Dupell, Andrew O’Leary and Jake Lynes in a shutout win over the Jacks, completing the weekend road sweep.

Dawson Creek 1 @ Bismarck 5 – The league’s #1 offense shined again as Tyler Richter scored twice, helping the Bobcats to five, 2nd period goals in a home win over the Rage.  Bismarck outshot the Rage, 46-18.

Aberdeen 3 @ Alexandria 2 – A 2nd period goal from Kevin Becker proved to be the difference as the Wings edged the Blizzard for a weekend split of the series.  Cory Ward and Bob Bruski also scored for the Wings.

New Mexico 2 @ Texas 5 – Taylor Herndon had two goals and an assist and Jordan Lovick had three assists as the Tornado completed a weekend home sweep of the Mustangs, outshooting them 46-14.

Kenai River 2 @ Fresno 1 (OT) – In the lone overtime game of the night, Ryan Walker completed a multi-point game by scoring :43 seconds into OT on the power play as the Brown Bears topped the Monsters.  Paul Bourbeau made 33 saves in the winning effort.

Wenatchee 3 @ Fairbanks 0 – The Wild posted their third straight shutout as Greg Lewis made 22 saves in a huge weekend road sweep of defending champion, Fairbanks.  Ben Carey’s power play goal in the 1st period ended up being the game-winner as the Wild have now won four straight overall.
