Chippewa goalie Wishart makes NCAA DI commitment

December 12, 2022

The Chippewa Steel of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that goaltender Carter Wishart has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Colgate University in the ECAC.

Wishart, 17, is in his first full season of playing junior hockey in the NAHL. The 6’2/172 lbs. native of Chaska, MN, has appeared in 12 games so far during the 2022-23 season and recorded a 7-3-1 record with a 2.29 goals against average and a .924 save percentage.

Wishart was named the Midwest Division Star of the Week for the week of October 24-30, when he won both of his starts and stopped 69 of 73 shots in a weekend series in Kenai River.

“I’m excited to announce my commitment to play division 1 hockey at Colgate University. Thank you to all my family, friends, and coaches who have helped and supported me along the way,” said Wishart on social media.

Wishart made his NAHL debut during the 2021-22 season with the Steel, appearing in two games on March 4-5, 2022.

“Carter has been an absolute pro since he got here. The work ethic and commitment to getting better has been a pleasure to watch. We are super proud and excited for Carter and his family,” said Steel head coach Casey Mignone.

Prior to playing in the NAHL, Wishart played high school hockey in Minnesota for Chaska High for three seasons.
