Maryland forward Westling makes NCAA DI commitment

The Maryland Black Bears of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that forward Gabriel Westling has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for St. Lawrence University in the ECAC.
Westling, 19, is in his first season playing in the NAHL for the Black Bears and second season of junior hockey overall. The 6’4/195 lbs. native of Mora, Sweden, is having a very good season thus far during the 2022-23 campaign. Westling is currently 4th in team scoring with 17 points (6 goals, 11 assists) in 18 games played to date.
Westling was named the NAHL’s East Division Star of the Week for September 12-18 where he put up six points in the four games at the NAHL Showcase, helping the Black Bears to a 3-1 record at the event.
“I’m extremely proud and honored to announce my commitment to play Division 1 college hockey and further my education at St Lawrence University. I want to thank my family, teammates and coaches for supporting me along the way and making this possible,” said Westling.
“Gabriel has been a very consistent performer all season long and has also shown the ability to take over games. He came to Maryland because he felt this program, and the NAHL, offered him the opportunity to continue to develop his career. Based on his trajectory, he could play this game for a very long time. Congrats to Gabe and his family. St. Lawrence is getting a heck of a player and person,” said Maryland head coach Clint Mylymok.
Prior to playing in the NAHL, Westling played youth and junior hockey in his home country of Sweden for More IK.
