Friday Finals: Warriors post shutout in home opener

Brendan Gibbons had a three-point night to lead the Maine Nordiques to their third straight win with a 4-2 win in Danbury.

Shreveport 0 @ Oklahoma 3 – In the first ever NAHL game played in the state of Oklahoma, the Warriors got 15 saves from Daniel Duris in a 3-0 shutout win over the Mudbugs in the Warriors home opener. After a scoreless 1st period, the Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd period with a goals from Malte Hasselgren on a penalty shot. Rylan Brady and Garrett Horsager added goals in the 3rd period for insurance. Shreveport goalie Tommy Aitken made 24 saves in the loss.

Maine 4 @ Danbury 2 - The Maine Nordiques struck three times in the final period as they doubled up the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks by a score of 4-2 on Friday afternoon. Evan Orloff and Ryan Johnson traded goals in the middle frame as we were tied up at one heading into the third. Then John-Paul Steele, David Helledy and Brendan Gibbons all scored about seven minutes apart to push the Nordiques lead to 4-1. Jake Howard would bring Danbury within two but that’s as close as they would get as Kael Depape finished the night with 21 saves. Patriks Berzins was dealt the loss as he ended the night with 38 saves. 

Minot 5 @ Bismarck 2 – Five different players scored and Dane Couture made 31 saves as the Minotauros beat the Bobcats in Bismarck on Friday, 5-2. Minot jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the 2nd period with goals from Cameron Bullinger, Colby Joseph, and Trevor Stachowiak, while Alexander Palchik scored for the Bobcats. In the 3rd period, the Bobcats tried to mount a comeback with a goal from Bryce Howard, but goals from Chase LaPinta and Colby Woogk secured the 5-2 win. Bismarck goalie CJ Kier made 24 saves in the loss.

Amarillo 2 @ New Mexico 5 – William Howard had two goals and an assist to lead the Ice Wolves to a 5-2 win over the visiting Wranglers. The Ice Wolves jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back, which included 1st period goals from Howard, JD Metz, and Camden Benson, and a 2nd period goal from Sully Scholle. Amarillo picked up goals from Rihards Simanovics and Jack Ivey, but another from Howard in the 3rd period on the power play cemented the 5-2 win. Carsen Stokes made 22 saves in the win, while Luca Ganz made 27 saves in the loss.

Odessa 1 @ Lone Star 4 – Thanks to two goals and an assist from Nate Mann, the Brahmas pushed their winning streak to 11 straight games thanks to a 4-1 home win over the Jackalopes. It was Odessa who got on the board first thanks to a goal from John Perdion. The Brahmas tied the game at 1-1 in the 2nd period with Mann’s first goal of the night. In the 3rd period, the Brahmas put the game on ice with three goals from Mann, Antti Autere, and Mason Mara. William Gramme made 20 saves in the win, while Quentin Sigurdson made 23 saves in the loss.

Wisconsin 7 @ Anchorage 3 – The Windigo scored a season-high seven goals, including two goals and an assist from Connor Mahony in a 7-3 win in Anchorage on Friday. After the Wolverines took a 2-0 lead in the 1st period with goals from Layten Liffrig and Aiden Westin, it was all Windigo after that, which included four goals in the 2nd period from Cameron Boche, Paul Huglen, Tyler Grahme, and Luke Levandowski, and three more goals in the 3rd period including two from Mahony and one from Benjamin Anderson. Westin added his second goal of the game in the 3rd period for the Wolverines. Maxwell Beckford made 28 saves in the win, while Shane Soderwall made 16 saves in the loss.

Janesville 3 @ Fairbanks 2 (OT) – Jimmy Doyle scored less than a minute into overtime to give the Jets their second straight win in Fairbanks thanks to a 3-2 win on Friday. The Jets jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st period with a pair of goals from Gustav Portillo. The Ice Dogs clawed their way back with a 2nd period goal from Marc Lund and a 3rd period tally from Jake Cameron. Doyle ended the game with a power play goal just :53 seconds into the extra frame. Selby Warren made 32 saves in the win, while Jack Olson made 33 saves in the loss.

Chippewa 5 @ Kenai River 3 – Five different players scored and Carter Wishart made 40 saves to lead the Steel to their third straight win thanks to a 5-3 win in Kenai River on Friday. The Brown Bears led 1-0 after the first period thanks to a goal from Jack Anderson. Chippewa netted three goals in the 2nd period with goals from Kade Nielsen, J.J. Grainda, and Joe Kelly to take a 3-2 lead, while Noah Holt scored for Kenai River. In the 3rd period, a goal from Luke Anderson briefly tied the game for the Brown Bears, but the Steel got goals from Cody Kempf and Matthew Brille to secure the win. Nils Wallstrom made 22 saves in the loss.

Johnstown 2 @ Maryland 6 - A four goal outburst in the opening period was enough to carry the Maryland Black Bears to a 6-2 win over the Johnstown Tomahawks. Kareem El Bashir, Samuel Stitz and Dimitry Kebreau scored just four minutes apart to put Maryland up 3-0 early in the first. Anthony Galante got the Tomahawks on the board with his fourth of the season but Christian Catalano and his NAHL leading 12th goal of the year put Maryland back up by three. Gabriel Westling and Branden Piku chipped in more offense for the Black Bears while Justin Rapp scored his first of the year in the final minutes for Johnstown. William Hakansson continued his strong start to the season as he made 21 saves. Matt O’Donnell and Alec Rajalin-Scharp combined to make 33 saves for the Tomahawks. 

Northeast 5 @ New Jersey 2 - David Andreychuk had a goal and two assists to lead the Northeast Generals to a 5-2 win over the New Jersey Titans. Paul Minnehan also finished with three points while Emerson Miller and Jake LaRusso each tallied a goal and a helper in the victory. Joseph Schubert grabbed a goal as well for the Generals. Michael Young had a goal and an assist to lead the Titans offensively while Levente Keresztes also picked up a goal for New Jersey. Toby Hopp made 33 saves for Northeast to grab the win in the blue paint. Jacob Torgner and Marino Ramirez teamed up to make 34 stops for the Titans. 

Springfield 3 @ North Iowa 1 - The Springfield Jr. Blues grabbed the first game in their series with the North Iowa Bulls by a score of 3-1. Lucca Munoz scored his first goal of the season just 33 seconds into the action to give Springfield an early lead. Byron Hartley tied it up in the second period with his ninth of the year with help from Max Scott and Justin Mexico. Isaac Keller put the Jr. Blues back in front off a nice setup from Andrew Schultz and Jaguar McClelland. Later in the game Jake Peterson provided the insurance goal for Springfield. Aksel Reid grabbed the win in between the pipes for Springfield as he made 22 saves. Erik Chaffe took the loss as he made 21 stops. 

St. Cloud 4 @ Minnesota 1 - Andrew Clarke scored once and assisted on two others to lead the St. Cloud Norsemen to a 4-1 win over the Minnesota Wilderness. Blake Perbix had a goal and an assist for St. Cloud while Tyler Dysart and Dylan Jensen each picked up a goal in the win for the Norsemen. Brian Lonergan provided the only goal for Minnesota in the loss. Tomas Bolo was the winner in goal, he only needed 17 stops to earn the win. Isak Posch made just 19 saves for the Wilderness. 

Austin 4 @ Aberdeen 1 - Gavin Morrissey had a three-point night with a goal and two assists to give the Austin Bruins a 4-1 victory over the Aberdeen Wings. Josh Giuliani had a goal and an assist for Austin. Parker Anderson and Damon Furuseth also picked up goals for the Bruins. Alexander Gullischsen had the lone goal for Aberdeen in a losing effort. Trent Wiemken turned aside 33 shots as he picked up the win in the crease. Cole Moore was saddled with the loss, he stopped 25 of 29 Austin shots.
