Steel and Jets get road wins in Alaska on Thursday
Chippewa 5 @ Kenai River 1 – Five different players scored a goal and Carter Wishart made 29 saves to lift the Chippewa Steel to a 5-1 win in Kenai River on Thursday night. The Steel took a 2-0 lead late in the 1st period with back-to-back goals a minute apart from Sam Rice and Kazumo Sasaki. Early in the 2nd period, J.J. Grainda scored to make it 3-0, which also ended the night for Brown Bears starting goalie Nils Wallstrom, who would end up with four saves. Later in the 2nd period, Noah Grolnic would score his first goal of the season to make it 4-0. With less than two minutes remaining in the game, Kenai River would net its lone goal from Bryce Monrean. Jackson Bisson would add a late goal for the Steel with :34 seconds left. Bryan Marks made 12 saves in a relief appearance.
Janesville 3 @ Fairbanks 1 – Selby Warren made 20 saves to lead the Jets to a 3-1 road win in Fairbanks on Thursday. After a scoreless 1st period, the Ice Dogs got on the board first in the 2nd period with their lone goal from Marc Lund. The Jets then took control later in the period with back-to-back goals just :13 seconds apart to take a 2-1 lead as Ethan Begg and Noah Gibbs found the back of the net. In the 3rd period, Joseph Kramer added an insurance goal for the 3-1 win. Fairbanks goalie Kayden Hargraves made 31 saves in the loss.
