Saturday Scores: Generals streak continues in weekend of sweeps
Maryland goalie Jack Wieneke stopped 33 of 34 shots, including a shutout Saturday, in a weekend sweep of Danbury.
Northeast 2 @ Philadelphia 0 – The Generals ran their winning streak to seven straight games as goalie Cullen DeYoung posted his first shutout of the season, stopping all 19 shots that came his way in a 2-0 win and sweep over the Rebels. Andrew DellaDonna opened the scoring in the 2nd period for the Generals, which was followed by an empty-net goal from David Andreychuk in the 3rd period. Rebels goalie Jakub Krbecek stopped 24 of 25 shots in the loss.
Lone Star 2 @ Corpus Christi 1 – The Brahmas widened their lead in the South Division as they got 22 saves from Arthur Smith in a 2-1 win over the IceRays, completing a weekend sweep in Corpus Christi. All the scoring was done in the 2nd period as the IceRays struck first on a goal from Cameron Crolley. The Brahmas would respond later in the period on goals from Nate Mann and Copeland Fricker, which eventually would secure the 2-1 win. IceRays goalie Thomas Kiesewetter made 24 saves in the loss.
Maryland 4 @ Danbury 0 – Jack Wieneke was a brick wall once again as he stopped all 16 shots that came his way for his first career shutout as the Black Bears picked upa weekend sweep in Danbury thanks to a 4-0 win on Saturday. Four different players scored for the Black Bears, which included Kaleb Tiessen and Dimitry Kebreau in the 1st period, Hunter Ramos in the 2nd period, and Christian Catalano in the 3rd period. Adam Johnson made 39 saves in the loss for the Jr. Hat Tricks.
North Iowa 4 @ Aberdeen 3 (SO) - The North Iowa Bulls won their fifth straight game as Byron Hartley and Max Scott scored in the shootout to give them a 4-3 win over the Aberdeen Wings. Hartley led North Iowa with a goal and an assist in regulation. Justin Mexico and Simone Dadie also scored for the Bulls. Erik Chaffe remained perfect on the season as he made 36 saves and stopped two of the three shooters he saw in the skills competition. Nils Forselius, Alexander Gullichsen and Nikolai Tiskhevich lit the lamp for the Wings while Cole Moore was dealt the loss in net as he made 29 saves.
St. Cloud 4 @ Bismarck 7 - Seven different Bobcats grabbed a goal as Bismarck completed the sweep of St. Cloud with a 7-4 win on Saturday night. Drew Holt, Vert Jantunen, and Erik Atchison scored in the first period for the Bobcats to give them a 3-1 lead after one period of play. Michael Neumeier, Kyle Doll, Julian Beaumont and Evan Hunter all scored in the third period of play as the Bobcats pulled away early in the final period. Linards Lipskis picked up the win in between the pipes as he made 30 saves. Charlie Wind, Andrew Clarke, Hunter Hanson and Daniels Murnieks all scored goals for St. Cloud in the loss. Will Ingemann and Ethan Dahlmeir combined to make 20 saves for the Norsemen.
Anchorage 4 @ Fairbanks 2 - The Anchorage Wolverines doubled up the Fairbanks Ice Dogs and took home a weekend sweep with a 4-2 victory at the Big Dipper on Saturday night. Cameron Morris and Cooper Morris scored in the opening frame for the Wolverines, Fairbanks countered with a goal from Marc Lund to trail by just one heading into the break. Wilson Dahlheimer put Anchorage up by two with his fourth of the season but it was Lund who found the back of the net again to bring Fairbanks within one. After a fierce attack by the Ice Dogs, Kyle Bauer put the game on ice with his third of the season into the empty net and the Wolverines skated away with the win. Shane Soderwall picked up the win in the blue paint as he made 27 saves for Anchorage. Kayden Hargraves suffered the loss as he made 20 stops for Fairbanks.
Chippewa 5 @ Janesville 4 – Thanks to a two-goal game from Sam Rice, the Steel completed a weekend sweep of the Jets thanks to a 5-4 win on Saturday. After the Jets scored first on a goal from Jimmy Doyle, the Steel then got goals from Kade Nielsen and Rice made it 2-1 for the Steel. The Jets tied the game at 2-2 early in the 2nd period on a goal from Kyle Kudma, but the Steel had an immediate answer with goals from Kazumo Sasaki and Rice to take a 4-2 lead. The Jets made it 4-3 on a goal in the 2nd period from Parker Mabbett, but JJ Grainda made it 5-3 later in the period. In the 3rd period the Jets pulled to within a goal with a power play tally from Gustav Portillo, but that would be the final score. Adam Gajan made 28 saves in the win, while Selby Warren made 20 saves in the loss.
Kenai River 3 @ Springfield 1 – In the 2nd of a three-game series, the Kenai River Brown Bears moved into sole possession of 1st place in the Midwest Division thanks to a 3-1 win over the Jr. Blues as goalie Bryant Marks stopped 23 of 24 shots in the win. Kenai River jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st period on goals from Bryce Monrean and Ryan Finch. After a scoreless 2nd period, the Brown Bears made it 3-0 early in the 3rd period on a goal from Garrett Drotts. Later in the 3rd period, the Jr. Blues netted their lone goal from Nikita Nikora. Jr. Blues goalie Carson Dorfman made 37 saves in the loss.
Maine 1 @ New Jersey 5 – Reece Brednich scored twice as the Titans salvaged a weekend split of their series against the Nordiques thanks to a 5-1 win on Saturday. The Titans exploded for three goals in the 1st period as Ben Yurchuk, Ben Muthersbaugh, and Brednich scored. In the 2nd period, the Titans added two more goals including one from Brendan Dumas and another from Brednich. Kellen Murphy had the lone goal for the Nordiques in the loss. Titans goalie Jacob Torgner made 27 saves in the win, while Thomas Heaney made 18 saves in the loss.
Odessa 4 @ Shreveport 1 - A 35 save effort from Gergely Orosz helped the Odessa Jackalopes earn a weekend split against the Shreveport Mudbugs, winning 4-1 on Saturday night. Emerson Goode logged a goal and an assist for Odessa while Logan Ganz picked up two assists. Brendan Finn, John Perdion and Tanyon Bajzer all got on the scoreboard as well for the Jackalopes. Logan Valkama netted the only goal for the Mudbugs. Tommy Aitken and Simon Bucheler teamed up to make 22 saves in the loss for Shreveport.
Wisconsin 3 @ Minnesota 2 (OT) - Tyler Grahme was the hero in overtime as the Wisconsin Windigo scored a 3-2 win over the Minnesota Wilderness. Wisconsin had the lead first when Will Schumacher scored his third goal of the season. Joe Cesario netted a power play goal to even the game at one at the end of one. Connor Mahony grabbed his first of the year to put Wisconsin back out in front after 40 minutes of play. Luke Jech scored early in the third period for Minnesota to tie the game and force overtime but it only took 47 seconds for Grahme to score and give the Windigo the extra point.
