Springfield forward Jones makes NCAA commitment

June 14, 2022

Carson Jones played for the Midwest Division team at the 2022 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament.

The Springfield Jr. Blues, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that Assistant Captain and 2022 Top Prospects forward Carson Jones has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE).

Jones, a 5’10/190 lbs. native of Eden Prairie, MN, concluded his junior hockey career by helping the Jr. Blues to our best season in over 20 years and was an integral part of our success on and off the ice.

Jones, 21, had 14 goals and 30 assists, both career highs in the NAHL, and was a +15 overall in 58 appearances. In his second tenure in Springfield he was named an Assistant Captain at the start of the season and was one of seven Jr. Blues players picked for the annual 2022 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament.

“Carson had a tremendous year with North Iowa (NA3HL) in 2020-21 and he was able to continue that momentum into this past season,” said Head Coach Tyler Rennette. “MSOE is getting a phenomenal young man, and we are very proud of him for his commitment.”

Carson played three seasons of junior hockey – two with Springfield and one with North Iowa om the NA3HL – and totaled 42 goals and 59 assists in 137 career appearances.

In High School he played two seasons for Eden Prairie where he had 11 goals and 16 assists in 38 games and he also made four appearances for the Minnesota Blizzard (NAPHL), scoring 3 goals and 3 assists.

During the 2020-21 season he appeared in 30 games for the North Iowa Bulls and tallied 20 goals and 21 assists in the regular season, and then added 4 goals and 3 assists in 10 playoff games en route to a Fraser Cup Championship.

The left-handed center finishes up  his Jr. Blues career tied for 61st in team history with 60 career points – dead even with former teammate and current Union College forward Caden Villegas. He is also 49th in games played with 107 appearances as he was one of five Jr. Blues players this season to eclipse the 100 NAHL games plateau (Noah Marino – 116, Cole Dubicki – 104, Leo Bacallao – 103, and Isaac Novak – 103).

He becomes the ninth player from the 2021-22 Jr. Blues roster to commit to a NCAA program, either Division 1 or 3. He joins Michael Valdez (Colorado College), Fisher Scott (Colorado College), Connor Smith (Union College), Hagen Moe (Bowling Green), Joey Dosan (Army-West Point), Ethan Roberts (St. Thomas), Mac Gadowsky (Army-West Point), and Tristan Shewchuk (College of St. Scholastica).
