Amarillo defenseman Todoroff makes NCAA commitment

June 10, 2022

The Amarillo Wranglers of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that defenseman Drayton Todoroff has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for Buffalo State College this fall.

The 6’3/219 lbs. native of Jackson, Michigan skated in 44 regular season games for the Wranglers in 2021-22, where he provided a physical spark throughout the lineup, recording five points and 132 penalty minutes.

"My time in Amarillo with Hoody and Cody was the most impactful year of hockey and life I've had so far," Todoroff said.

Todoroff made a significant impact during the inaugural season for the Wranglers and left Amarillo with many impactful lessons and friendships.

"Withy Hoody's mentorship, I've learned what it takes to compete in all aspects of life and how to step up to the next level. Cody and I bonded a lot too over the numerous hours of conditioning and one-on-one conversations," Todoroff said.

Buffalo State College is part of the State University of New York System. Drayton is eager to lace up the skates for the Bengals and further his education.

"What excited me about the Buffalo State program is the opportunity to continue my hockey career at the collegiate level. I am also excited to expand my academics," Todoroff said. "I am looking forward to receiving a degree in business."

The 6-foot-3-inch defenseman was impressed with the coaching staff and attitude surrounding the Buffalo State hockey program.

"Head coach Steve Murphy radiates a winning attitude and wants the best for all of his guys... I'm confident that joining Buff State will help me grow as a player and person," Drayton said.

As Todoroff prepares for the next chapter in his academic and athletic career, he is excited to move to an area that reminds him of home.

"The campus and city remind me of home when I visited in March. The city is a hard-working culture; that is something I wish to be a part of," Todoroff explained.

Drayton is the latest member of the inaugural class of seniors for the Wranglers to announce his college commitment. Before moving on to Buffalo, Todoroff looks fondly on his year in Amarillo.

" I loved my time in Amarillo, and it will always be a close place in my heart," Todoroff said. "The relationships I have made will last a lifetime."

Prior to playing in the NAHL for the Wranglers, Todoroff spent two seasons playing in the NAPHL for the Meijer AAA (Now Biggby Coffee AAA) 18U and 16U teams.
