Nordiques and Norsemen pick up road wins on Sunday
Maine 5 @ Northeast 3: Brendan Gibbons continued his hot play as he and the Nordiques played the role of playoff spoiler on Sunday in a 5-3 win at Northeast. Gibbons had a hat-trick and an assist in the win. The Generals jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the 1st period as David Tolan and Tyler Ramm scored goals on either end of Gibbons’ firt. In the 2nd period, the Nordiques tied the game with the second goal from Gibbons, but the Generals retook the lead with a goal from Steven Ardagna. The Nordiques pulled away with three goals in the 3rd period, including the third from Gibbons and others from Reese Farrell and Zion Green. Avery Sturtz made 29 saves in the win, while Cullen DeYoung made 39 saves in the loss.
St. Cloud 4 @ Janesville 1: Norsemen goalie Tomas Bolo won his 7th straight start as he made 32 saves in the 4-1 road win in Janesville on Sunday. The Norsemen took a 1-0 lead in the 1st period with a power play goal from Brandon Lajoie. Max Strand scored in the 2nd period to make it 2-0. The Jets pulled to within a goal early in the 3rd period as Jan Lasak scored. However, the Norsemen pulled away with Ryan O’Neill’s 30th goal of the season and an empty-net goal from Nick Young. Owen Millward made 37 saves in the loss.
