New Mexico defenseman Blom makes NCAA DI commitment
The New Mexico Ice Wolves, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that defenseman Gustav Blom has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the Rochester Institute of Technology in Atlantic Hockey.
Blom, 21, is in his final season of playing junior hockey and first season playing in the NAHL. The 6’1/185 lbs. native of Stockholm, Sweden, is currently leading all Ice Wolves defensemen in scoring with 30 points (5 goals, 25 assists) in 40 games played.
“Proud and honored to announce my commitment to play division one hockey and further my education at Rochester Institute of Technology. A big thank you to my coaches, teammates, family and friends who made this possible,” stated Blom.
Blom’s 30 points in tied for 5th among all NAHL defensemen so far this season.
“We’re extremely happy for Gustaav on his commitment to RIT. Coming to North America is never easy, especially playing the south division. He’s adapted well and has been a huge part of our team’s success,” said New Mexico head coach Phil Fox.
Prior to playing in the NAHL, Blom spent two seasons of playing junior hockey in Sweden in the SuperElit League for Mora and AIK.
