Saturday Scores: Titans seize control of East with sweep

Bismarck forward Brady Egan had four goals in a weekend road sweep of North Iowa.

New Jersey 3 @ Maryland 0: Andrew Takacs stopped all 25 shots he faced as the New Jersey Titans blanked the Maryland Black Bears 3-0. Levente Keresztes got the Titans on the board with a power play goal in the first period. Anthony Mollica added to the lead in the middle frame with his eighth of the season. Michael Young secured the win with an empty net goal late in the third period. Luca Di Pasquo turned aside 27 shots in the loss for the Black Bears. 

Bismarck 4 @ North Iowa 0: The Bobcats completed a weekend road sweep of the Bulls in impressive fashion as goalie Oskars Spinnars Nordin posted his first career NAHL shutout, stopping 19 shots in a 4-0 win. Drew Holt scored two goals in the win. The Bobcats got off to a fast start with two goals in the 1st period from Holt and Brady Egan, who scored his 4th goal of the weekend. Holt would add his second goal of the game in the 2nd period to make it 3-0 and Quinn Rudrud completed the scoring with the 3rd period goal. Bulls goalie Hunter Garvey made 25 saves in the loss.

Anchorage 1 @ Kenai River 0: Shane Soderwall stopped all 36 shots that came his way for his second shutout of the season as the Wolverines completed a weekend road sweep of the Brown Bears thanks to a 1-0 win on Saturday. The lone goal of the game came in the 2nd period as Aiden Westin scored a power play goal, which was his 16th goal of the season, with an assist to Cooper Morris. Brown Bears goalie Bryant Marks made 35 saves in the losing effort.

Odessa 3 @ Lone Star 4 (SO): Matt McQuade had the shootout winner and an assist as the Brahmas completed a weekend sweep of the Jackalopes with a 4-3 shootout win. Lone Star struck first with a goal from Artur Turansky in the 1st period. The Jackalopes the scored three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead into the 3rd period as Ryan Kelly, Ryan Mansfield, and John Wojcieshowski all scored. Later in the 3rd period, the Brahmas tied the game with goals from Dylan Smith and Tanner Daniels. Frankie Ireland and McQuade scored in the shootout to win it for the Brahmas. Arthur Smith made 24 saves in the win, while Noah Rupprecht made 35 saves in the loss.

Springfield 1 @ Janesville 9: Robby Newton led all skaters with four points as the Janesville Jets completed the sweep of the Springfield Jr. Blues with a 9-1 victory. Jan Lasak had a goal and two helpers of his own while Cy LeClerc and Mack Keryluk each had a goal and an assist. Gunnar Williams, Cade Destefani, Jack Ford and William Gustavsson all got on the scoresheet for Janesville. Hagen Moe notched the only goal for Springfield. Owen Millward continued his strong play as he made 28 stops. Aksel Reid and Ethan Roberts teamed up to make 19 saves. 

St. Cloud 5 @ Austin 1: Make it 12 straight wins for the St. Cloud Norsemen as they swept the Austin Bruins again with a 5-1 win on Saturday night. Ryan O’Neill led the way with a pair of goals and an assist. Nik Hong also netted two goals for the Norsemen. Blake Perbix also contributed a goal for St. Cloud. Austin Salani had the only goal for the Bruins in the loss. Ethan Dahlmeir needed just 15 saves to earn the win in goal while Klayton Knapp stopped 28 of 33 shots. 

Shreveport 1 @ Wichita Falls 4: Cade Lemmer found the back of the net twice and chipped in an assist as the Wichita Falls Warriors beat the Shreveport Mudbugs 4-1. Dominick Rivelli and Owen Baumgartner found the back of the net for the Warriors as well. Drake Morse was the lone goal scorer for the Mudbugs. Brandon Milberg notched 33 saves for Wichita Falls while Devon Bobak took the loss, making 31 saves.

New Mexico 5 @ El Paso 2: Dillan Bentley had two goals and an assist to lead the Ice Wolves to their fifth straight win as they beat El Paso, 5-2. The Ice Wolves jumped out to a 2-0 lead with 1st period goals from Bentley and Brandon Holt. The Rhinos tried to make a game of it with 2nd period goals from Nick Turek and Jonathan Horn, but the Ice Wolves had an answer with goals from Nicolas Haviar, Mitchell Becker, and another one from Bentley. Carsen Stokes made 21 saves in the win, while Jacob Zacharewicz made 42 saves in the loss.

Jamestown 7 @ Johnstown 3: John Lundy netted two goals and added an assist as the Jamestown Rebels took care of the Johnstown Tomahawks 7-3. Jak Vaarwerk picked up a goal and an assist for the Rebels while Lucas Klemm, Ryan Waltman and James Miller also lit the lamp for Jamestown. Frank Jenkins, Egan Schmitt and Sean Ramsay provided the offense for the Tomahawks in the loss. Nolan Suggs grabbed the win and an assist while making 22 saves. Dominik Wasik and Matthew O’Donnell combined for 19 stops. 

Corpus Christi 2 @ Amarillo 1: Kevin O’Keefe’s third period goal was the difference as the Corpus Christi IceRays edged the Amarillo Wranglers 2-1. Nathan Butler put Corpus Christi out front first with his 16th goal of the season in the opening period. Glebs Prohorenkovs would tie the game late in the second period and the two teams went to the locker room tied at once after 40 minutes. It was at the 8:34 mark of the third period when Michael Casey Jr found O’Keefe for his second tally of the year. Damon Beaver earned the win as he was nearly perfect, stopping 38 of 39 shots. Carter Clafton was given the loss as he made 26 saves.

Aberdeen 1 @ Minot 3: Minot salvaged a weekend split of their series with Aberdeen as Lassi Lehti made 39 saves in a 3-1 win over the Wings. Minot took a 1-0 lead in the 1st period on a goal from Colby Joseph. The Wings tied the game at 1-1 in the 2nd period as Will Gilson scored on the power play. In the 3rd period, the Minotauros secured the win thanks to a power play goal from Brayden Beahm and an empty-net goal from Huston Karpman. Wings goalie Anton Castro made 29 saves in the loss.

MN Magicians 3 @ Fairbanks 4 (SO): It took 18 combined shooters, but the Ice Dogs outlasted the Magicians 4-3 to take the rubber match of their three-game series. Fairbanks jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to a pair of goals from Alexander Malinowski and one from Noah Griswold. The Magicians stormed back with three goals in the 3rd period to tie the game at 3-3 as Hunter Longhi, Jon Bell, and William Svenddal all scored. In the shootout, Brady Welsch had the winner as Fairbanks’ 9th shooter. Ice Dogs goalie Kayden Hargraves made 29 saves in the win, while Josh Seeley made 33 saves in the loss.
