Friday Finals: Lundy and Rebels roll to shutout win
New Mexico and Top Prospects goalie Beni Halasz tied for the league lead with his 5th shutout on Friday night.
Danbury 0 @ Jamestown 7: John Lundy registered two goals and three assists as the Jamestown Rebels shutout the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks 7-0. Joshua Burke, in his first game with Jamestown, logged four assists against his former team. Jake Vaawerk had a goal and two assists while Carter Casper and Marcus Kivela Carlzon each had a goal and a helper. Lucas Klemm also got on the scoresheet for the Rebels. Nolan Suggs was perfect for Jamestown, stopping all 27 shots fired at him. Adam Johnson had 29 saves for Danbury.
Amarillo 0 @ New Mexico 1: The New Mexico Ice Wolves defeated the Amarillo Wranglers 1-0. Nikolai Dulak scored the game's only goal at 6:12 in the first. Jimmy Jurcev and William Howard were called on the assists. Amarillo’s Max Gutjahr stopped 36 of 37, while Beni Halasz of New Mexico earned the shutout stopping all 24 shots he faced.
El Paso 1 @ Wichita Falls 6: Six different Warriors found the back of the net as the Wichita Falls Warriors defeated the El Paso Rhinos 6-1. Riley Brueck and Dominick Rivelli each tallied a goal and an assist. Max Dronen, Cade Lemmer, Adam Smith and Drew Vieten also found the back of the net for the Warriors. Blake Arenson had the lone goal for El Paso. Brandon Milberg made 24 saves for the Wichita Falls while Jacob Zacharewicz stopped 37 shots.
Odessa 3 @ Corpus Christi 1: The Odessa Jackalopes kept pace in the very tight South Division as they topped the Corpus Christi IceRays 3-1. Nick Ahern, Rylan Yates and Tanyon Bajzer all lit the lamp for the Jackalopes. Blake Lewis netted the only goal for the IceRays, a power play tally. Will Proctor was nearly perfect as her made 32 saves for Odessa while Stefan Carney stopped 29 shots in the loss for Corpus Christi.
Anchorage 2 @ Springfield 3: The Springfield Jr. Blues edged the Anchorage Wolverines in a 3-2 final score. Anchorage took a 1-0 lead with Talon Sigurdson (10:38) scoring for a 1-0 lead. Early in the second, Springfield evened the game 1-1 with a goal from Ethan Chesney (0:50). In the third, Matt Johnson (2:26) took the lead back for Anchorage, 2-1. The Jr. Blues rallied soon after when Hagen Moe (3:40) tied the game. Later in the period, Connor Smith (7:22) would score the game winning goal.
Minot 4 @ Bismarck 2: The Minot Minotauros topped the Bismarck Bobcats in a 4-2 final. Late in the first, Quinn Rudrud netted his 17th of the year for a 1-0 Bobcat lead. In the second period, Dean Schwenninger (5:59) evened up the score 1-1. Bismarck’s Ben Troumbly (15:18) scored to get back the lead, 2-1. In the third, Nathan Mann (2:45) and Trevor Stachowiak (3:53) scored to take the lead and win for the Bobcats, 4-2.
North Iowa 3 @ Aberdeen 4 (OT): The Aberdeen Wings and North Iowa Bulls decided the winner in overtime fashion. Under a minute in the opening frame, Kyle Gaffney scored to get the Wings on the board. Soon after, Jack Campion (2:28) evened the game. Aberdeen took back the lead with Seamus Campbell (4:32) for a 2-1 score. In the second period the Bulls found the back of the net twice with Hunter Bulger (0:47) and Byron Hartley (18:48) for a 3-2 lead. Late in the third, Aberdeen’s Cade Nelson (17:33) evened the game to force overtime. Cade Nelson would shine again scoring the game-winning goal in overtime just forty-three seconds in for a 4-3 win.
Shreveport 3 @ Lone Star 2 (SO): The Shreveport Mudbugs topped the Lone Star Brahmas in a 3-2 shootout final. In the first period, Nicholas Niemo netted two goals for a 2-0 Lone Star lead. In the third period, Austin Brimmer (2:56) and Burke Simpson (14:34) would score to even the game, forcing overtime. After a scoreless OT, the game went to a shootout where Shreveport’s Connor Gatto and Logan Valkama would score to win the game 3-2.
Maryland 4 @ Northeast 2: A wild second period propelled the Maryland Black Bears to a 4-2 win over the Northeast Generals. Four different Black Bears scored in the middle frame as Laker Aldrige and Jacob Brockman got Maryland out to a 2-0 lead. After Alex Krause scored for Northeast to make 2-1, Dimitry Kebreeau and Ryan Bottrill scored to increase the lead to 4-1. Ryan Gordon got Northeast within two but that’s as close as the Generals would get. Luca Di Pasquo made 38 saves in the victory for Maryland while Cullen DeYoung took the loss, making 36 saves.
Maine 6 @ Johnstown 5 (OT): Tristan Fasig capped off one of the most incredible comebacks in NAHL history as the Maine Nordiques overcame a five goal deficit to defeat the Johnstown 6-5 in overtime. After Johnny Ulicny scored the opening goal, the Tomahawks scored four goals in five minutes to take a commanding 5-0 lead after the first period. David Wilcox, Egan Schmitt, Jake Black and Ryan Vellucci all lit the lamp for Johnstown. The Nordiques comeback stared nearly in the middle frame as Tyler Gaulin, Brendan Gibbons and Jonny Meiers scored in the first five minutes to make things interesting. Gaulin netted a power play goal late in the second to bring Maine within one heading to the third. Aidan Connolly grabbed another power play goal for Maine to tie the game at five just eight minutes into the third period. Then in overtime Fasig buried a feed from Ignat Belov to complete the comeback. Gus Holt played 43 minutes of perfect hockey to grab the win, making 14 saves. Matthew O’Donnell turned aside 27 shots.
St. Cloud 6 @ Austin 2: Ryan O’Neill netted a hat trick as the St. Cloud Norsemen defeated the Austin Bruins 6-2 and jumped into a tie for first place in the Central Division. It was the ninth straight win for the Norsemen. Brandon Lajoie potted a pair of goals for St. Cloud while Chase Freiermuth also tallied a goal. Ethan Dahlmeir stopped 15 shots to earn the win. Nick Catalano and Walter Zacher each lit the lamp for Austin in the loss. Klayton Knapp stopped 26 shots for the Bruins.
Fairbanks 4 @ Chippewa 2: Braden Linstrom scored twice in his first game against his former club as the Fairbanks Ice Dogs doubled up the Chippewa Steel 4-2. Jack Ring and Billy Renfrew each got on the scoresheet for Fairbanks. Kade Nielsen had goal and an assist for Chippewa while Jax Schauer also scored for the Steel. Tyler Krivtsov earned the win in between the pipes as he made 25 saves. Nick Haas stopped 37 shots in a loss.
Kenai River 2 @ MN Magicians 6: Lucas Kanta had two goals and one assist as he led the Magicians to a 6-2 win over the Brown Bears. Hunter Longhi contributed a goal and two assists. Cole Schneider and Daniil Dolzhenko each grabbed a goal and an assist in the win. Chris Kernan also lit the lamp for Minnesota. Josh Langford made 24 saves in the blue paint to pick up the win. Noah Holt and Barak Braslavski were the goal scorers for Kenai River. Cole Wheaton stopped 36 shots for the Brown Bears.
