Jackalopes and Generals win on Thursday
Odessa 6 @ Corpus Christi 3 – Dayne Hoyord scored twice to lead the Jacks to a 6-3 road win in Corpus Christi on Thursday. It was all Odessa in the early going as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st period, which included a pair of goals from Hoyord and another from Ryan Mansfield. The IceRays came back to make it 3-2 with a power play goal from Stepan Kuznetsov and a shorthanded goal from Nathan Butler. However, the Jacks pulled away, scoring three of the next four goals as Justin Hughes, Nick Ahern, and Christopher Duclair all lit the lamp. Jude Kurtas had the third goal for the IceRays. Noah Rupprecht made 33 saves in the win, while Stefan Carney (5 saves) and Damon Beaver (27 saves) each gave up three goals in the loss.
Maryland 2 @ Northeast 3 – Ryan Gordon scored twice and Cullen DeYoung made 42 saves to lead the Generals to a 3-2 home win over the Black Bears on Thursday. Northeast got out to an early 2-0 lead in the 1st period thanks to a pair of goals from Gordon, which were his 14th and 15th goals of the season. The Black Bears cut the lead down to 2-1 early in the 2nd period as Ryan Bottrill lit the lamp. Later in the period, the Generals regained their two-goal lead as Ryan Corcoran scored. Early in the 3rd period, the Black Bears again pulled to within one goal as Conor Cole scored, but that would be as close as Maryland would get as DeYoung held the fort the rest of the way. Michael Morelli made 31 saves in the loss.
