Maryland defenseman McDowell makes NCAA commitment

January 25, 2022

The Maryland Black Bears of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that defenseman Aidan McDowell has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for Stevenson University.

McDowell, 20, is in his third and final season playing junior hockey in the NAHL. The 5’10/185 lbs. native of Englishtown, NJ, has appeared in 19 games so far during the 2021-22 season and recorded two points.

"I’m proud to be furthering my academic and athletic career at Stevenson University. I want to thank my parents, coaches, and teammates for helping me throughout the years. The past 3 years with Maryland have been nothing but amazing. Maryland is a first-class organization from the coaching staff, my billets who’ve welcomed me into their home, and to all the people who work for the team. The coaches have helped me immensely to prepare me for the next level and grow to be a better person. This year we are a really close team on and off the ice and I can’t wait to see what this team can do the rest of this year,” said McDowell.

McDowell joined the Black Bears during the 2019-20 season and had a solid rookie campaign with 14 points in 42 games played. He followed that up with 13 points in 36 games played during the 2020-21 season.

"Aidan has been a corner stone of our organization the past few years and we're very excited to see his continued growth in academics and hockey. Aidan is a high-quality person with a skill set to match. Stevenson is getting a really good player and teammate. He has been a loyal player to the program and has represented us in so many positive ways since he has been here. We are more than excited for Aidan and are happy he will be taken on the next chapter of his hockey career right down the road at Owings Mills, MD,” said Black Bears head coach Clint Mylymok.
