Amarillo defenseman Peterson makes NCAA DI commitment
The Amarillo Wranglers of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that defenseman Jakob Peterson has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Northern Michigan University in the CCHA, and will join the team immediately for the season semester of the 2021-22 season.
Peterson, 19, is in second season playing junior hockey and first season overall in the NAHL. The 6’2/178 lbs. native of Marquette, MI, had a very impressive first half of the season for the Wranlers as he posted 18 points (3 goals, 15 assists) in 25 games played.
“While it’s difficult to lose your most offensive defenseman mid-season, we believed when we drafted Jakob that he could develop into an NCAA Division 1 defenseman. We are very happy for Jakob and his family. Jakob has a very high ceiling as a player and it will be exciting to watch his game grow playing in his hometown,” said Wranglers head coach Harry Mahood.
Prior to playing in the NAHL, Peterson played his youth hockey in Marquette for Marquette Senior High.
Peterson will provide nice depth to head coach Grant Potulny’s blue line as NMU gets set to begin the second half of its season Jan. 7 for a home series with Colgate.
