NAHL Weekend Preview

The last weekend in November offers up a full plate of post-Thanksgiving action in the NAHL with 26 games.
The league continued its commitments this past weekend, with three more players announcing their NCAA Division I commitments, bringing the current season total to 123 players.
One of the things the NAHL does better than any other junior league is seeing their players earn an NCAA opportunity while playing and being showcased in the NAHL. During the 2020-21 season, a record number of 395 NAHL players made NCAA commitments, with 293 of those (74%) being a record number of NCAA Division I commitments.
Another NAHL alumni made his NHL debut this past week as former Janesville Jets and Corpus Christi IceRays defenseman Grant Hutton made his debut with the New York Islanders. This past week also saw nine NAHL alumni earn weekly honors in five different NCAA Division I hockey conferences.
In the Central Division this weekend, the Aberdeen Wings will try and slow down the red hot Minot Minotauros, who have won four in a row and climbed into a tie for 2nd place. Meanwhile, 1st and 2nd place collide in another series as North Iowa and Austin do battle in a home and home series. The final series has St. Cloud in Bismarck with each club trying to snap two-game slides.
In the East, Maryland and New Jersey are tied for 1st place and each team has a home series this weekend with the Black Bears hosting Danbury, while New Jersey hosts Maine. The other series has the Jamestown Rebels in Johnstown with the team battling for the fourth and final playoff spot. Northeast is idle.
In the Midwest, the Alaskan rival continues in Fairbanks with the Ice Dogs hosting Anchorage with the two teams just two points apart. The Minnesota Wilderness and Chippewa Steel collide in a home and home series, while the Minnesota Magicians are in Janesville. Springfield and Kenai River are idle.
In the South, all eight teams are in action. The division-leading New Mexico Ice Wolves look to maintain their winning streak as they are in Corpus Christi. The Shreveport Mudbugs are on the road and looking to snap a six-game slide as they face the Odessa Jackalopes. The 2nd place Amarillo Wranglers are in El Paso to take on the Rhinos, and Wichita Falls is at Lone Star with the two clubs battling for the fourth and final playoff spot.
