Wichita Falls defenseman Corcoran makes NCAA DI commitment

November 15, 2021

The Wichita Falls Warriors of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that defensemen and team captain Vincent Corcoran has announced his commitment to play NCAA Division I college hockey at Bemidji State University in the CCHA.

Corcoran, 20, took to Twitter on Thursday to make the announcement, an announcement he has been waiting to make since childhood. “They (Bemidji State) are always a top program every year. Also, I get to live out my childhood dream of playing college hockey,” said Corcoran.

The 5’8/165 lbs. native of Plainfield, IL is in his second season with the Warriors, his first with a “C” patch. So far this year during the 2021-22 campaign, Corcoran had accumulated 14 points and 11 assists, both team highs for defensemen. In the Warriors’ inaugural campaign, he also led defensemen in points and assists with 31 and 27, respectively.

Corcoran played in the 2021 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament back in June for the South Division team, where he had one goal in two games played.

In three NAHL seasons, Corcoran has appeared in 122 career regular season games and recorded 56 points.

“Vinnie has proven he is one of the league’s top defensemen with his offensive production. He has been so dynamic for us since the first time he stepped on the ice as a Warrior,” head coach Garrett Roth, a Bemidji State alum, had to say of Corcoran. “There are a lot of players that can collect points in this league, but he is a special breed with his compete level and his willingness to do whatever it takes to help drive the team to success.”

The Warrior captain had nothing but positive things to say about his time in Wichita Falls and the help he has received from his coaches. “Our coaching staff is very transparent and has made it clear from the start that they allow players to play to their strengths,” said Corcoran. “Having that trust with our coaches makes it easier to play with more confidence which is what I struggled with a bit before coming here.”

Corcoran also showed his appreciation to Roth for his help throughout the question-filled process. He cited Roth’s positive remarks about Bemidji State that led to the decision becoming easier for him to make.

Coach Roth finished out his praise for his captain by stating, “Vinnie has been a model of consistency for our group and his fearless play will fit right into how Coach [Tom] Serratore’s Beavers play the game.”
