NAHL Weekend Preview

September 10, 2021

The North American Hockey League has its first weekend of the 2021-22 regular season as 8 games are on top in the East and Midwest Divisions.

The 2021-22 regular season got started earlier this week in the East Division as the Northeast Generals got off to a 2-0 start thanks to a mid-week road sweep of the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks.

The 2021 NAHL Showcase is on the horizon next week as all 29 teams will make their way to the Super Rink in Blaine, Minnesota, for The Greatest Show on Ice.

One of the things the NAHL does better than any other junior league is seeing their players earn an NCAA opportunity while playing and being showcased in the NAHL. During the 2020-21 season, a record number of 395 NAHL players made NCAA commitments, with 293 of those (74%) being a record number of NCAA Division I commitments.

The Central and South Divisions do not begin regular season play until the Showcase.

In the East Division, there is one series as two playoff teams from a year ago, the New Jersey Titans and Maryland Black Bears, do battle in Maryland this weekend.

In the Midwest Division, there is a busy schedule as six of the eight teams in the Division are in action. The Springfield Jr. Blues play their first game since March 7, 2020, as they travel to Janesville to take on the defending Midwest Division Regular Season Champion Jets. The Midwest Division Playoff Champion Minnesota Magicians open their quest to get back to the Robertson Cup as new head coach Nick Bydal is behind the bench for their season debut against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs. In the final series, new Chippewa Steel head coach Casey Mignone makes his debut as the Steel host the Kenai River Brown Bears.
