Wichita Falls forward Korpi makes NCAA DI commitment

September 1, 2021

The Wichita Falls Warriors of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that Top Prospects forward Carter Korpi has committed to play NCAA Division I college hockey at the United States Air Force Academy.

“I’m thrilled to get this commitment,” Korpi said. “The Academy is an unbelievable place to play and go to school.”

“Carter has worked through a lot, and has overcome adversity to get this opportunity,” said Warriors head coach Garrett Roth. “The process isn’t always a straight line, and Carter has proven that with hard work and determination, you can achieve the goals you set for yourself.”

Korpi, 20, posted 21 points in 27 games with Wichita Falls after coming over in a mid-season trade from Minot. He collected 32 points in 44 games overall during the 2020-21 season. His 16 goals on the year were third-most on the Warriors.

Korpi was also selected to and played in the 2021 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament in June for the South Division team, where he recorded two points in two games played.

“I can’t thank the staff here in Wichita Falls and in Colorado Springs enough,” Korpi said.

“Carter has been a player that has worked his way through a line-up at the junior level to get opportunities to have success,” Roth said. “He has done everything asked of him and last season proved he is a go to guy that can produce in big moments.”

The 5’11/180 lbs. native South Lyon, Michigan collected three points in six playoff games to help guide Wichita Falls to their first ever playoff win— and playoff series win— over Lone Star. Korpi is the second Warrior to commit during the offseason, with forward Thomas Weis committing to the University of Maine in late August.

Overall in 77 career NAHL regular season games in two seasons, Korpi recorded 44 points.

“Wichita Falls has meant everything to me,” Korpi said. “I have found a home here with Coach Roth, my teammates, my billets, and the fans. They push me to be better every day.”

“Air Force is getting a high character, hard working player that comes from a great family,” Roth said.
