Austin forward Jacobs makes NCAA commitment

August 23, 2021

The Austin Bruins of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that Top Prospects forward Peter Jacobs has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Jacobs, 21, spent two seasons in Austin after being picked up from his T1EHL AAA team, the Colorado Rampage, where he played for three seasons. While playing in the NAHL for the Bruins, the 5’10/175 lbs. native of Carlsbad, CA, racked up 22 goals and 31 assists for a total of 53 points in his 107 games played.

“Austin was a great town and community to play juniors in. My experience there has no doubt prepared me to play at the college level,” Jacobs said.

During the 2020-21 season, Jacobs finished 3rd in team scoring with 35 points in 56 games played. He was also selected to and played in the 2021 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament for the Central Division team.

Jacobs had a history of being a captain on the teams he played for. As he had held an alternate captain position for three out of the four seasons leading up to his time in Austin. One of those seasons being with the San Diego Jr. Gulls AAA 16U team, and two of them being with the Colorado Rampage 18U AAA squad. That other year he held the captain position on the Colorado Rampage 16U AAA team.

Jacobs’ first year in the black and gold was his first season in four years where he did not hold a captain status, but the following season in 2020-21, he earned his spot as an alternate captain once again.

“I am grateful for everything I learned from my coaches and teammates, and I appreciate my time with the Bruins. But I am now very excited for the next chapter at Eau Claire. I cannot wait to meet all the boys, get the season going, and live with former Bruin Kyle Oleksiuk as well,” said Jacobs.

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire had an abbreviated season in 2020-21, finishing the regular season 4-2-1, then falling to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in overtime by a score of 2-1 in the first round of the playoffs. That was coming off a championship year for Eau Claire in 2019-20, as they managed to go 19-4-2 in the regular season. The Blugolds then took down the University of Wisconsin-Superior and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point to win the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship.
