Maine forward Owens makes NCAA DI commitment
The Maine Nordiques of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that veteran forward Stefan Owens has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the University of Massachusetts-Lowell in Hockey East.
Owens, 21, has been a Maine Nordiques staple over the past two years and has been very good on both sides of the ice. The 5’10/170 lbs. native of Midlothian, VA, had his best career season in 2020-21, leading the team in scoring during the regular season with 51 points (24 goals, 27 assists) in 56 games played.
He also currently leads the Nordiques in playoff scoring with five points in five games played thus far.
In his two years in the NAHL, Owens has appeared in 110 career regular season games and recorded 78 total points.
“Stefan has been a great role model for our team, on and off the ice. He is very worthy of being our captain this year and he really put in the work in the off-season to really improve his game and become an NCAA Division I caliber player. He is an exceptional all-around hockey player and person,” said Nordiques head coach Nolan Howe.
