NAHL Weekend Preview
The 2021 NAHL Robertson Cup Playoffs continue this weekend with the conclusion of the Division Semi-Finals. Two teams have already punched their tickets to the Division Finals as we await the conclusion of six more series.
The Club seeded first in each division will compete in a best-of-five series with the fourth seeded Club in the same division. The Club seeded second in each division will compete in a best-of-five-series against the Club seeded third in the same division. The Division Semi-Finals may begin no earlier than Thursday, May 20, 2021 and must conclude no later than Monday, May 31, 2021. The Club seeded higher in each division semifinal series has the right to host up to three games and the Club seeded lower in each division semifinal series must be able to host at least two games.
The four eventual divisional playoff winners will meet for the 2021 Robertson Cup Championship, which is scheduled to be held at Fogerty Arena in Blaine, MN, from June 18-22.
It was a huge week for commitment news as nine more NCAA Division commitments were announced this past week. That brings bringing the current season total to 329 players (including a new record of 281 Division I commitments) who are playing in the league and are committed to playing NCAA hockey in 2020-21.
In the Central Division, the Bismarck Bobcats have advanced to the Central Finals, where they will face Aberdeen or Minot. The Minotauros staved off elimination on Thursday night with a 3-2 double overtime win in Game 3. The Wings still lead 2-1 with Game 4 on Friday.
In the East Division, the Johnstown Tomahawks fought off elimination on Thursday thanks to a 4-2 win in Maryland in Game 4. Game 5 is Saturday night in Johnstown with the winner advancing to the East Finals. In the other series, the Maine Nordiques took a 2-1 lead thanks to a 3-2 win on Thursday in New Jersey. Game 4 is Friday.
In the Midwest Division, the Minnesota Magicians have advanced thanks to their sweep last weekend in Fairbanks. They await the winner of the Kenai River vs. Janesville series as the Brown Bears go for the sweep on Friday.
In the South Division, the Shreveport Mudbugs took a 2-1 series lead thanks to a 3-2 overtime win in Amarillo on Thursday. In the other series, the Wichita Falls Warriors go for the series sweep on Saturday as Game 3 shifts to Wichita Falls.
