Friday Finals: Division-leading Tomahawks, Jets clinch playoff spots

George Grannis had two goals to lead Bismarck to a 3-2 road win in Aberdeen on Friday night.

New Jersey 6 @ Johnstown 9 - After watching his 16-game point streak come to an end last week, Will Margel made sure he got on the scoresheet Friday as his goal and three assists helped propel the Johnstown Tomahawks to a 9-6 win over the New Jersey Titans, helping the Tomahawks clinch a playoff spot in the East. Caden Lewandowski racked up three points and William Persson lit the lamp twice for the Tomahawks. John Gelatt registered a goal and an assist while Jared Gerger, Dominic Schimizzi and Daniel Tkac all found the back of the net. David Posma and Caleb Price led New Jersey with a goal and an assist. Tommy Bannister, Zach Nazzarett, Evan Werner and Jake Suede all scored in the loss. Josh Graziano grabbed the win in goal by making 30 saves. Christian Stoever was on the losing end of this shootout, he made 29 stops.

Bismarck 3 @ Aberdeen 2 - George Grannis found the back of the net twice as the Bismarck Bobcats handed the Aberdeen Wings their fifth loss of the year, winning 3-2. Patrick Johnson’s fourth goal of the year was the eventual game winner. Jordan Randall and Cade Neilson tallied goals in the loss for the Wings. Ian Shane was terrific as he stopped 43 shots, Jake Sibell suffered his second regulation loss of the year as he made 26 saves.

St. Cloud 3 @ MN Wilderness 2 - Brett Chorske had a goal and two helpers as the St. Cloud Norsemen outlasted the Minnesota Wilderness 3-2. Chorske tied the game at one goal apiece before setting up Jack Suchy and Jack Reimann for power play tallies in the second period. Cole Hansen and Brendan Poshak provided the offense for Minnesota in a losing effort. Josh Langford made 21 saves to pick up his eighth win while Jacob Zacharewicz stopped 33 shots.

Northeast 0 @ Maryland 2 - Michael Morelli turned aside all 36 shots he faced as the Maryland Black Bears blanked the Northeast Generals 2-0. The score was even for 34 and a half minutes until Daniel Colabufo buried a power play goal with assists going to Sean Kilcullen and Branden Piku. The 1-0 lead stood until the final few minutes when Garrett Szydlowski provided some much needed insurance thanks to assists from Conor Cole and Jude Kurtas. Anton Castro was great in goal for Northeast but didn’t get any offensive help as he made 20 saves.

Maine 6 @ Danbury 5 (OT) - Patrick Schmiedlin scored just 43 seconds into overtime as the Maine Nordiques came back to defeat the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks 6-5. Schmiedlin’s first goal tied the game at five with nine minutes remaining in regulation. Tristan Fasig and Aidan Connolly each had a goal and an assist while Luke Antonacci and Jack Strauss also found the back of the net. Mark D’Agostino and Alex Duncan chipped in with a goal and an assist. Shane Murphy, Jackson Hughes and Robert Hyde got on the scoresheet as well for Danbury. Tyriq Outen earned the win with 28 saves while Edvard Nordlund took the tough luck loss as stopped 37 shots.

Wichita Falls 2 @ Amarillo 4 - Jordan Venegoni potted a pair of goals and the Amarillo Bulls doubled up the Wichita Falls Warriors 4-2. Cooper Fensterstock and Greg Japchen also tickled the twine for the Bulls while Hunter Garvey made 26 saves to pick up the win. Marcus Frantz had both of the Warriors goals in the loss, Owen Bartoszkiewicz made 30 saves.

Janesville 4 @ Chippewa 1 - Cade Destefani scored twice and the Janesville Jets downed the Chippewa Steel 4-1. Charlie Schoen continued his strong play with another goal while Carter Hottman also grabbed a goal in the win. Riley Sims was really good, denying 34 of 35 Chippewa shots. Liam Hansson had the lone goal for the Steel while Berk Berkeliev stopped 27 shots. With the win, the Jets clinched a spot in the 2021 Robertson Cup Playoffs.

Odessa 0 @ Lone Star 4 - Graham Burke only needed 15 saves to shutout the Odessa Jackalopes as his Lone Star Brahmas won 4-0 on Friday night. Andrew DeCarlo’s 3 points led the team while Zach Purcell and Nicholas Niemo had a goal and an assist. Joey Baez and Alex Murray grabbed a goal as well for Lone Star. Connor Hasley made 23 saves in a losing effort for Odessa.

Austin 3 @ Minot 6 - Kyle Kukkonen’s two goals paced the Minot offense as they doubled up the Austin Bruins 6-3. Jack Westlund, Logan Anderson, Cade Stibbe and Mason Campbell all scored in the win for the Minotauros. Reggie Millette, Carson Riddle and Jens Richards were the goal scorers for the Bruins in the loss. Keenan Rancier was the winner in goal as he made 25 saves. Tyler Shea took the loss in net, making 32 saves.

Shreveport 3 @ New Mexico 4 (SO) - Joe Prouty scored the game winning goal in the sixth round of the shootout as the New Mexico Ice Wolves brought the Mudbugs eight game winning streak to an end with a 4-3 win. Joey Larson and Jack Bayless had a goal and an assist in the win while Jeff Hutchinson also found the back of the net. Mason McCormick led Shreveport with a goal and an assist while Joe Mack and Dawson Sciarrino also found the back of the net. Owen Parker won his seventh game of the season by making 26 saves and five of six in the skills competition. Cole Hudson suffered the shootout loss despite making 24 saves.
